Patriots Make History With 16-0 Season

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - With one mighty heave, Tom Brady and Randy Moss took care of the record books. Now it's down to business for the unbeaten New England Patriots: stamping themselves as the greatest team in NFL history.

The Patriots completed a perfect if somewhat joyless journey through the regular season Saturday night, finishing with a remarkable 16-0 record following a thrilling 38-35 comeback victory over the New York Giants.

New England became the first NFL team since the 1972 Dolphins to win every game on the schedule, and that one was only 14-0. This victory required a comeback from a 12-point deficit engineered by the brilliant Brady, and smashed the Patriots' league mark for consecutive victories.

Validation of their inexorable march through the season can only come by adding a Super Bowl championship, their fourth of the decade. Do that and there'll be no challenge to their spot at the top.

YES!!! Go PATS!!

And hats off to the Giants, who played a helluva game to the end. The last 5 minutes was a nail-biter of epic proportion! I was out of breath by the time it ended! Wow!

One of the best games I’ve seen in a while. The Giants did a great job. Congrats to the Patriots!

sour grapes? or a lack of appreciation for an historic season?

Congratulations to a very fine team. I really thought the Giants were going to win this, but then Brady shows why he is this decade’s Joe Montana. That throw to Moss was something.

Maybe, a 20 years or so from now, people will be talking about some quarterback as the new Tom Brady!

I agree. The Giants did great. The thing I liked most about this game was when the Patriots got down by 12 and they simply made the decision to win the game. You could just see and feel it. Twenty-two points unanswered points until the last score for the Giants in the final minute. It reminded me of all those times Joe Montana decided it was time for the 49ers to win. Amazing.

Nobody would expect them to come straight back with that same play; if nothing else you’d figure Moss would be winded from doing it once...

They seemed destined for it. The Giants can say they gave the Pats the biggest deficit of the season, and that’s not shabby.

Maybe he has changed, but I really dislike Randy Moss.

Of course, I am a Packer fan. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Forget the perfect season! The real question is how does this effect my fantasy football team? ;O)

Has a team ever gone 17-1 before?

For it to be a TRULY perfect season, Belichick would get torn to shreds by a tiger escaped from the San Francisco Zoo.

But anyway, congratulations to the Patriots*.

Obviously the person was motivated enough to click on a thread, click on a post to reply and type a single word. That is probably the best we can expect from someone like that.

It’s you, isn’t it, Mercury? What, out of vials and logged on to FR? I would have thought DU was more your speed...

Belichick was fined $500,000 (the maximum allowed) and the team was fined $250,000 and the loss of a draft pick

Perfect season!

The reason people cheat is because people like the ones in this thread could care less...

This one was really sweet. Especially how Brady and Moss were able to get their records in such a meaningful way. Great game by the Giants.
