Fact based? Well sort of. The M$M just could not credit Ronaldus Magnus, could they?
With anemic earnings like that, I can only guess that Charlie Wilson’s War sucked on toast.
Actually it was a really good movie, that played quite fair with the facts.
Did anyone catch National Treasure or AVP:R? Opinions?
So, you would recommend it? I was thinking of seeing it, but I was guessing that with Julia Roberts in the film it would be a propoganda piece for the DNC.
I watched National Treasure - pretty good. Decent pacing, humour, and action. Also, it is a family-freindly film.
It will win golden globes and oscars and not break even. I am seeing good signs that America is more conservative than I think it is. Also, most Democrats vote Dem based on feelings. They don’t like to think about politics. that’s why liberal talk radio and liberal political movies go nowhere. Conservatives won’t go on principle and liberals won’t go because facts are boring.
Apparently there was a lot of editing after the real people objected. It’s a lot of fun, definitely earns it’s R (some nudity lots and lots of profanity). But it does a good job of mixing the seriousness of the situation with a light hearted presentation (helped by the fact that the real people knew how to have fun), and at the end comes with a good reminding why all the people saying we should flee Iraq are wrong (without saying we caused anything, just pointing out that we didn’t help prevent).
Short review: Not as good or inventive as the first, but still very good. It kept on reminding you of the first movie, and how much fun that all was the first time around, which reduces your enjoyment. Still a good movie. I'm glad I went to see it. However, if they are going to do NT III, they better come up with some new material
If somebody had seen the sequel without ever seeing the first movie, they would probably enjoy it much more.
I agree with your assessment. It is good, but the first one was better. I think that NT-TBOS was a setup for a third movie.
I saw National Treasure II on Christmas Eve. Good movie, although not as fun-packed as the first, but still worth going to see.
I got to see one of the NTII sets last spring at Universal Studios Hollywood and enjoyed the movie. I also saw ‘Charlie Wilson’s War’ and thought it was enjoyable; but any move that slams Jack Murtha TWICE is okay by me.
Saw “National Treasure”. Wasn’t as good as the first one [a bit too formulaistic], but had some nice touches [Jon Voigt’s fear of the ex- Helen Mirren was a hoot]. Still, an entertaining two hours.
In the next sequel, Cage's dad Jon Voigt will be implicated in the assassination of JFK and Cage will have to find out where Joe Kennedy Sr.'s bootleg stash is buried AND clear his dad by proving Woody Harrelson's father and Howard Hunt were on the grassy knoll in Dallas.
Saw both this weekend.
“Charlie Wilson’s War” wasn’t bad, but two things stood out to me.
First, little mention of any Presidential involvement in the whole thing, though they did scoff at Carter’s crybaby boycott of the Moscow Olympics. Nothing about Reagan, not even a passing reference to his “tear down this wall” speech!
Secondly, after the war was “over”, Wilson couldn’t get 10 cents for aftercare in Afghanistan from his buddy Demon-rats in Congress. Of course, no mention about how this probably had much to do with the Taliban rise to power, the housing of Bin Laden and his friends and, well, you know the rest. What do you expect from Aaron “I still have a man-crush on Bill Clinton” Sorkin?
“National Treasure”, on the other hand, was good mindless fun. Yeah, there were parts that could have been better, but all the critics that were slamming this must also have hated “Indiana Jones”, “Star Wars” and “Battlefield: Earth”.

I don’t know about others, but I don’t go to movies to be preached to about the ills of the world or how Big Bad Company, Inc. wants to control the world. I go to movies to be entertained. What’s wrong with that?
“Battlefield: Earth”.
The only place I ever hear of this movie is on FR. I’ll have to give it a try.
Don’t bother. “Battlefield: Earth” has edged out “Plan 9 from Outer Space” as the cheesiest Science Fiction movie ever made.
