Barry Bonds, in an interview with TV broadcaster Jim Gray, said that if the Hall of Fame displayed the No. 756 home run ball with an asterisk on it, he would not appear at the Hall ever, even if he was inducted to it.
The interview is being telecast in two parts. The first part aired Thursday night. The second part is to air tonight on MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann," between 5 and 6 p.m.
"I don't think you can put an asterisk in the game of baseball," Bonds said, according to a release from MSNBC, "and I don't think that the Hall of Fame can accept an asterisk in their Hall of Fame. You can't, you cannot give people the freedom, the right to alter history, you can't do it. There's no such thing as an asterisk in baseball."

Let him have his moment, in a few years A-Rod or someone else will pass him.
Yup. I fully agree.
Bonds should never be make the Hall of Fame.
If Hall of Fame membership is dependent on saintly behavior, it's time to kick Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth out. ;)
I certainly do not expect saintly behavior. But it is another thing to cheat and use steroids, etc.
I lived on the same street as him when I was a kid. I suppose you could say that I had my reservations about him long before it was fashionable.
Payrod....probably another user ......
The days of “saintly” players is a bygone era. In MLB most are foreigners anyways.
Until pro sports goes to a lower base salary and incentive pay standards the price will continue to rise while everything else falls ( like attitude and off field hijinx ) and they price themselves out of a living. I personally cannot wait for that day.
I think he wants an excuse not to ever have to go to the Hall of Fame. He’s so unpopular his induction ceremony would probably include a lot of boos, because fans of the other players being inducted aren’t going to be kind to him.
My suggestion was the Rose would get his plaque, but that it would be down in the basement, next to the boiler, and you'd have to get special permission to go see it.
I hate Barry Bonds, but I also think the idea of branding an asterisk on the ball is stupid, and I think MLB should stop the practice of permitting “fans” to leave the ballpark with important “milestone” balls. These balls are marked with the MLB logo and belong to the sport. Fans merely rent a seat. Are they permitted to leave with the seat? Ridiculous. The Mark Ecko fiasco was a real turning point. Milestone balls belong to the Hall of Fame, not stupid fans and self-promoting idiots.
The rule is that any player, coach, or manager betting for or against his own team shall be banned for life. Bart Giamatti left the door open for the owners to change the rule (he banned Rose indefinitely under a different rule — it was the most favorable decision he could have made without ignoring the evidence. Fay Vincent reconsidered the decision, as Giamatti promised to do, and decided against Rose.)
The owners did not change the rule.
Did Bonds ever test positive?
Henry Aaron admitted to taking drugs, albeit the wrong ones, to increase his performance. I don’t think he had a problem with an asterisk next to his name.
Let him have his moment. Bonds is, for the moment, the HR king.
Through 1998, Bonds's acomplishments included the following:
-- 3 MVP awards (at that time, he was tied for the record with several others)
-- 8 Gold Glove awards
-- The first - and still only - player with both 400 plus career home runs and 400 plus career stolen bases
This guaranteed him induction into the HOF in his first year of eligibility.
FWIW, Pete Rose ought to be in, also, since his sins occurred long after his playing career.
I agree.
Saintly ain’t the issue, but sure makes for a cute strawman to beat up on. It’s behavior detrimental to the game that ought be discussed if you want a real debate.
Bonds indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice!
Thanks for the heads-up.
