Don’t many in the archeology field hold to the opinion that King Solomon is just a myth?

Not sure where I heard that. Probably on one of the less than depthful History Channel productions or some such.

At one time, the entire Old Testament history was held to be a myth. Archaelogy has been nibbling away at this prejudice.

No, but there are those (Finkelstein for example) who claim that there was nothing much to the Kingdom of Israel, basing that on the Egyptian pseudochronology popularized over a hundred years ago. 18th dynasty Pharaoh Hatshepsut’s bas relief of her voyage to Punt names the port official who greeted her there, and it matches that of a Solomonic-era port official in charge at Ezion Geber.
