The lawyers do not have to play the race card. The local DA already has accused the feds of taking the case over because of celebrity and race.
Also, the city of Atlanta is pretty much split on racial lines. If Arthur Blank (Falcon's owner) suspends Vick they will have a whole lot of empty seats this year. And if they don't probably the same.

Yep, The Dirty Birds are in a no-win situation. If I were their owner, I’d say Mr. Vick is innocent until proven guilty, and then I’d ask the new NFL commissioner for a recommendation on how to discipline Vick.

Nothing but silence form the PETA.
It's a flip comment for now, but before its all over they will have volumes to say

How costly are empty seats to an owner? Seriously. I am a fan and it seems to me I’ve heard that the money in in TV, not attendence. Just curious. I guess I should make the effort to get more informed about the business end of the sport! Somehow, having the Tampa Bay Bucs for a home team seems to take all the fun out of the game these days.

The Falcons should have cut Vick a long time ago — for reasons that have nothing to do with this incident. He’s been the most overrated player in the NFL in my lifetime.

Yes, many things in this town are still a race issue-Atlanta is unable in many ways to get out of the past and move forward.
