You, sir, are my hero for the day.
That is one of the best photo comparisons I have ever seen.
I laughed, I cried........
I have to disagree with your assessment on ‘Saving Private Ryan’.
As a war movie, it has its flaws...and suffers in comparison to a movie such as ‘Blackhawk Down’ in some respects. There have been complaints about the authenticity of various scenes, details and so on.
However, the movie was very important in a a unique way, in that it showed the bonds that develop between men in war, and did it in a more accurate way than say, a piece of crap movie like ‘Platoon’.
It also exposed an entire generation to D-Day in a way they had never been, a generation that was largely ignorant of it. My nephew saw the movie, and talking about the beach scene, said “That never really happened.” I gently told him that that kind of stuff did happen, and much, much worse.
And I maintain that the invasion scene still ranks as one of the most intense war scenes in a movie, non-stop from beginning to end.
I still cannot believe it lost out to “Shakespeare in Love” as best picture. That was the last time I ever watched the Oscars. It said more about Hollywood liberalism and the stupidity of the Oscars than it did about the relative quality of those two movies.
Yep. ‘Open Range’ has become one of my favorite Westerns!
Robert Duvall is simply superb!!!! My favorite scenes:
Robert Duvall waking up the bad guys who are tied up and cloroformed in the jailhouse, doing that little jig step and sawing on the fiddle so horribly that the rats are running for the exits! (Then telling them he has breakfast for them...)
When they are in the bar, and Robert Duvall drinks a toast of “Good health, to them who has it comin’.”
Nope. You are all wrong. The two worst movies are:
‘The Piano’
and
‘The Hours’
I was forced to sit through them both. Patch Adams was a walk in the park, comparatively speaking!
GREAT movie! Very underrated, IMHO.
Nah, just my general observation—but any and all may claim it as appropriate.
BRAVO! Two movies I ADORE! I LOVE Secondhand Lions...:)
What? No “Greatest Story Ever Told” or “10 Commandments”?
Both movies are in my top 15.
ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The PELOSI one is BEST!
I, too, hated Titanic. It was far inferior to “A Night to Remember.”
“Only reason I would disagree with Nightfall is the broader circulation of Heinleins Starship Troopers, a formarly rare example of taking a novel back to comic books.”
Watched Starship Troopers this morning.
I agree about Titanic, worst move I ever saw.
Two more of my favorites: “12 Angry Men” and “Das Boot”.
Freakin’ hilarious. Thanks for that group of side-by-side photos!
One quibble - Dick Cheney is missing. Perhaps as Theoden?
I would throw Saving Private Ryan (which was OK but not that much better than most 1940s-60s war movies) and Titantic off the list.
I agree with you. Well directed with very strong performances from both Giamatti and Crowe. Renee Zellweger was also in top form. Not to mention it is a great story.
Priceless. Thank you!
Count me in too. Open Range is also one of my favorite movies. Robert Duvall is always a treat and the much maligned Kevin Coster is usually better then many people give him credit for.
