Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy them all a one-way bus ticket to San Fransicko?

No. Frisco is still in shock after discovering that the mayor is straight. It'll take a year or so to get over that.

Seriously, I feel for the homeless (we used to call them hobos, bums, vagrants). I can't imagine being out in the cold there in Wisconsin, global warming or no.

You would think that they of all people would understand that the shelter is trying to take in as many people as it can, and that its space and facilities are not infinite. Would these self-righteous whiners prefer maybe that the shelter turn away the guy right after THEM, so as not to overload the facility?

"They tear the place up, then complain conditions are substandard. The "logic" of complete losers."

LOL! Reminds me of a story my stepdad told me about a guy that was hired to head the local housing authority or some such. He was black and they were holding a press conference at a housing project to "show him off". In the press conference he said something to the effect of, "See these broken windows and broken doors? See that graffiti and trash? Well nobody came from the outside and did that, you residents did it and you will be responsible for helping to make it right." He was promptly fired.

"Of the three toilet stalls, the men said, only one has a door. Blankets hang over the openings of the other two stalls..."

Obviously they have no military background. We had large, open bays with 8-10 toilets in them. No stalls, no nothing. Just a big room with a cement floor and toilets against the two walls.

Showers were the same way. Very concentration camp-esq. One big room with shower nozzles spaced around the outer walls and a drain in the center. And don't even get me started on Field Conditions, LOL! A shower a WEEK was a luxury, and then that was in the woods in a tent. Ever dug a latrine by hand? Fun, fun fun!

Take a seat, Boys! You don't know how GOOD you have it!

Executive director...? That's a highfalutin title for a homeless shelter volunteer.

Years ago, I got involved with some volunteer stuff, thinking I was doing my civic duty and all. But I quickly got disillusioned with the whole scene. These organizations were chock-full of self-important bozos who evidently signed on as volunteers so they can call themselves "directors" and "executives" all the other titles they could never hope to possess in the real working world.

Thus you had losers who couldn't get a mailroom job in the corporate world strutting around the place haughtily bossing other volunteers around like they were Donald Trump or Leona Helmsley or something.

The pit bulls don't have the option of hitching a ride south for the winter.

Beggars can't be choosers...and shouldn't be whiners, either.

Around here, they call that "deer camp". LOL

"...or Leona Helmsley or something."

Oh. My. Gawd. You nailed it! For a very short time, I worked for a non-profit. I was the Admin Assistant to the Director of "Very Special Arts."

Now granted, it is a "nice" organization that takes people with mental and physical disabilities and turns their "artwork" into posters and Christmas Cards and wrapping paper and all that rot...to raise a buck to do it all over again the next year...after they take their cut to hold a Gala to pat themselves on the back for their "good works." *Rolleyes*

The woman I worked for had to be legally insane. She had this big old black Cadillac that she'd drive around (we did her errands and grocery shopping during work hours, naturally) and while she was driving, she'd "dictate" to me and I was to take copious notes of her ravings and rantings. Of course, it was a "given" that I would do things like take her dog to the groomer and pick up her dry cleaning. *Rolleyes*

I lasted all of a month. She and her bleeding heart staff were absolutely a bunch of disfunctional nuts!

I hunt. I know all about Deer Camp. And the guys I usually go with are wimps by my standards, LOL!

(Note to self: Stop telling people you can rig a camp shower and dig a latrine. They will exploit you to the fullest extent that they are able!) ;)

Several men complained of others who are drunk or high - conditions that are supposed to bar entry - who come in and scream and holler.

If I was running that place anyone who made a peep after lights-out would be out on their @ss so fast they would skid to a stop.

There are plenty of others to take their place.

I used to hunt; now I just shoot.

We have an orchard & garden; God provides the targets.

In addition, the men say that the blankets and pillows they use are not laundered often enough. "They stink,"

"We have an orchard & garden; God provides the targets."

I've been messing with some rabbits' minds this week. (Not hard to do, actually.) They can't figure out why carrots are appearing for them under the bird feeder where they go to snitch food, LOL! Carrots? In February? *SMIRK*

Just fattening them up for Spring. ;)

Just fattening them up for Spring. ;)

The normal Country Symbiosis: we feed them; then they feed us.

Last fall I had to laugh, while bagging the chosen turkey.

The flock was under an apple tree, and young Mr Macho was up on a whippy limb, pecking the ripe ones. As he pecked, he had to keep waggling his wings to keep his precarious perch; that was knocking other apples down to the rest of the flock. I shot when he flew out of the tree, with an apple speared & stuck on his beak. A veritable flying Rudolph, the clown nosed turkey.

Teenage hubris did him in.

The gobbler of the flock had sense enough to keep a low profile, herding the girls into the heavy brush, when he deduced I was getting close enough to be a threat. Not that I wanted that tough old bird anyway; he's too good a provider for & protector of his hens...his jakes are another, expendable, matter.

Great story! They are interesting critters, aren't they? We usually have a (protected) flock of over 40 on the back hill.

Husband got his first Tom last year with a bow. He was thrilled. He just got his permit for this upcoming spring.

Too bad they don't teach these kinds of skills in the shelters, Eh? I realize it's somewhat unrealistic, but I'm a "Teach a Man to Fish..." kind of gal. :)
