Of recent releases, The Illusionist was a winner. I just bought Flyboys, but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Still, I hear good things about it.

Don't waste time on The Black Dahlia or Crank.

Netflix is actually excellent for going through multi-disc titles, like TV shows you've missed out on or need to get caught up on. We just went through the first two seasons of The 4400. I also put War and Remembrance on there, since that one is outrageously expensive to buy.

Look through the categories. They have hundreds of classics from the 30, 40, 50, and 60s.

Anything with MATT DAMON! in it.

Definitely.

(Funny thing is, the last movie I watched (The Good Shepherd) had MATT DAMON!! in it. He slept through the whole film.)

Go to this website:

Apple Movie Trailers

There you will find a title listing and trailer for just about every major movie for the past 12 months or more...as well as upcoming releases.

View the trailers for any titles that pique your interest and make a list. You'll be surprised at how big a list you can make in an hour.
One caveat; You will need to have the latest Quicktime installed.

The Departed is coming to video soon.

I think The Prestige is out and it is very good.

And if you don't have a problem with crude humor, Clerks II is hilarious.

Some movies I've enjoyed that are a bit less common are: The Quiet Man, Room with a View, The Incredibles, The Great Escape, The Longest Day, Cool Hand Luke and if you can get TV miniseries stuff I thought Shogun was well done and I'd be interested in seeing Babylon 5 again as I missed quite a bit of it.

Sense and Sensibility - Chick flick (but I'm a chick)

Jane Austen's great characters and humorous storytelling transcend the vapid "chick flick" genre. I just consider movies made from her books to be high quality historical costume dramas - and most men should like them. ;)

Sense and Sensibility is a chick flick, but as a guy I enjoyed it anyway. Good call on the Hitchcock films, Rear Window being a favorite for me. Also good call on the film noir Third Man, I'd also add The Big Sleep.

The Guardian and Invincible are two recently released DVD
movies that are both inspiring and based on true stories......

Plus just good entertaining flicks....

Both are PG-13 rated.....
