Webster's | December 1, 2006 | Argh

Posted on 12/01/2006 1:14:02 AM PST by Argh

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of two "Words for the Day".

1. vastation [noun, pronounced vas-TAY-shun, from Latin vastus empty, waste]
a. a renewal or purification through the burning away or destruction of evil attributes
b. obscure: devastation

2. vaticinal [pronounced va-TISS-in-ul, adjective, from Latin vaticinari to prophesy]
of, relating to, or containing prophecy: prophetic

Example sentence:
Another time.

Rules: Everyone should leave a post using one or more of the Words for the Day in one or more sentences.
The sentences should, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

I thought that "vastation" referred to comments written by Vast RightWing Conspiracy.

The burning bush was an example of a vaticinal vastation.

Morning!

Would a complete vastation
Of the the 'rat party suffice
To return them to sanity
And some degree of nice?

Perhaps it was vaticinal
That Zell and Joe ran out-
Not wanting to associate
With insanity no doubt

With queen Hillary as icon
And paranoia one of the rules
History may dub the party
As one of moonbats and fools

It is 24 outside, but at least the wind isn't blowing-I've got a long drive, and invoices to collect on-the car should be warm by now, so I'm off to work-back later...

Wow. It's colder by you than it is here. We have 36 degrees with winds gusting at 25 mph, so the wind chill is 22. Not a good day to be outside.

it is 67 degrees here, xsboy just left with his teammate's family for the airport. i am concerned about the high wind warnings here and in Cincinnati, he will be flying into the teeth of it.

No but our hockey team was unable to fly out of St. Louis last night since they closed the airport at 3:30 pm so the coach told them to take a mental health day and do stuff with their families while they are stuck. The dads and a few moms are along on this trip.

Debrief from the Bank fruity reception. Not very crowded, maybe 150-200. Mostly old farts, much richer than I. Cheesey poofs with dill, iced jumbo shrimp, Hawaiian meatballs, chicken teriaki on a stick and the obligatory Brie and fruit platter.

The wine was American, as was the beer. Dessert was little pecan pies and little key lime tarts.

All 3 of the people I know from the bank came and said hello. I saw exactly one other guest I knew. I toughed it out for an hour and went home.

perhaps theD can tell us precisely when we had REBARBITIVE as WFTD...it may have been during ms rika's tenure?

Mr. Webb they gained yet another very unpleasant person as a conspicuous member of the party hierarchy. He will not be easily obscured. Mr. Webb now takes his place with Hillary Clinton, Dr. Howard Dean, Al Gore, Jean-Francois Kerry, and so many other Democratic notables as a rebarbative blowhard with whom you would not want to share a gondola. Nor would a civilized American want to have any of these churlish cads to dinner or even as neighbors down the block. Just the other day, one of Senator Clinton's neighbors turned up with a gunshot wound. I would not be surprised if it were self-inflicted.
