I left the house Monday afternoon, heading to the store. The Red Shouldered Hawk left the roof, and landed in one of the pines in the front yard. It chose the wrong tree. The squirrel came in so fast I wasn't sure what was happening, actually managed to pull some feathers, and was turning around to go after more when the hawk took off. Yeah, I never go anywhere without a camera!

Didn't I recently read of attack, killer squoils in California?
Have they migrated?
Was Republic Pictures closer to the truth in the '50's than anyone realizes?

Those are beautiful pictures, SWAMPSNIPER. I've become somewhat of a birdwatcher myself because I have a baby daughter that refuses to cry while outside and I have several boxes of tomatoes that I believe will carry me until January.
Anyway, I recently saw a hawk take rest atop some pines in my neighbor's yard. He was a magnificent bastard. My camera phone sucks like an airplane toilet so I just stood there and watched, infant in hand, at what God has done.

Thanks, all. I guess I'm not so much a "birdwatcher" as I am someone who is just fascinated, and amazed, in general.

Squirrels love to perform. They are the stand-up comedians of the animal kingdom.

We have at least one white squirrel in my area.
I had never seen one before, I did not get close enough to see if it has pink eyes.
The body is white and tail has some yellow at the tip.

Bet that hawk was too near the squirrels nest.

I remember seeing a photo here at FR of a squirrel eating a dead bird once. Never knew they were omnivores until then.

Clever and fun on a rainy morning.
We do not have squirrels in this area.

I see that picture when I watch the squirrels out back. Some of them seem to literally fly.

"Didn't I recently read of attack, killer squoils in California?...Have they migrated?"No,
they still hang around Sunset Boulevard, Ocean Avenue, and most any airport.
