This ought to be a very interesting thread. Note to any Mods watching:

a. This vanity raises a serious question for discussion, and

b. FR is not the Catholic Church and Ann isn't the Virgin Mary - so I hope that free discussion of this topic will be permitted....

I suppose women should be coy and meek.

That persona you deride makes her a very wealthy woman--I think you're reading far, far too much into it.

1. I don't understand your basis for claiming evidence of exhibitionism and narcissism. I have seen neither.

2. Rules?

never-married lifestyle

What is that?

Oh please a 'psychological profile'. What is this obsession with a 'woman' having the intellect to say what is without coating it to win friends and influence people?

There is no deficiency in NOT getting married, and IF my daughter decides to NOT ever to get married it would not make me think less of her.

Just in case.

I do understand the reasons behind the questions you pose with this thread. I, for one, feel that Ann goes to the heart of the matter on every subject she writes.
Whether it is about her upbringing or how she conducts herself privately is another matter. To me, it appears she had a very different upbringing than a lot of girls these days. She was raised with a fierce patriotism that has extended itself to some of the views she has today.
We could talk all day about what makes her the way she is, but in the end her ability to point at any issue and have a definitive position is refreshing.

The Libs have no problem calling consevatives every dirty thing they can think of, but when a conservative calls four women, who are truly using the deaths of their loved ones to further a political agenda, 'harpies', the whole media comes unglued and we get posts like this one about ..."what makes her tick".

What should be the focus is how correct any of her observations are to being accurate.

I suspect that we are all secretly aware that her public persona displays more than a little evidence of exhibitionism and narcissism....the woman clearly has some personality issues.

Nonsense. Coulter is a cultural/political strategist, and a damn fine one at that.

You don't shake the trees she does by following the recommendations of those sitting in them.

You'd do well to abandon your fatuous flirting with psycho-analysis, and try looking at her as a cultural general.

Why don't we do a personality bashing of Al Simmons instead?

That ought to be just as fun and maybe even more enlightening, particularly because we can safely allow Al Simmons to serve as a stand-in for all the other erstwhile FReepers who apparently cannot tolerate no-holds-barred criticism of liberalism and its outrageous tactics of deceit and manipulation.

Why is it that posters like Al Simmons and sinkspur are outraged by fearless outspoken conservatives such as Ann Coulter and relatively silent and accepting of the vileness that is liberalism?

Here's an idea, Al Simmons. Why don't we leave Ann Coulter be and concentrate our energies and posting space against the real enemy, the left, as Ann has done?

You assume that one's public persona as an author always reveals the true person. Sometimes that is true, of course. Truman Capote was a flaming homo, Thomas Wolfe as troubled as his novels suggest, and Norman Mailer is actually the blustering windbag he seems to be.

Yet there are other cases, such as Willa Cather's covert lesbianism being unrevealed in her writings, which movingly described the love between a man and a woman in "My Antonia" and a saintly pioneer priest in "Death Comes for the Archbishop." And Einstein, the prototypical modern scientific sage, ditched an inconvenient wife and retarded child for brutally selfish reasons and sometimes embarrassed himself with other physicists by getting his own theories wrong.

As for Ann, I know her background and have seen her speak in person and on TV, and have read most of her books and many columns and articles. She seems utterly consistent, sincere, and well thought out in her rhetorical strategies. I believe that her sharp-tongued and uncuddly public persona is the natural result of being an open conservative at University of Michigan and Yale Law School. Boot camp lasts six weeks and changes, but Ann had seven years of practice in take-no-prisoners, against-all-comers argumentation in hostile terrain. After that, she was a federal law clerk, a lawyer at the conservative Center for Individual Rights, and went through Stan Evans' finishing school for conservative journalists.

With Ann, I am reminded of the learned and humane Samuel Johnson's lifelong love of coffeehouse arguments. After one particularly long and contentious evening, a satisfied Johnson commented to Boswell on the way home that he had enjoyed himself immensely. "Yes," Boswell replied, "you tossed and gored all comers." Do not let the piles of tossed and gored liberals make you think that Ann is somehow an aberrant personality. I have no doubt that the private person would be of different manner and well worth knowing.

Actually I like Ann.

John Murtha can accuse our troops of being Nazis and no one bats an eye.

Ann skewers the Jersey girls for going on exhibition, using their husband's deaths as part of the attack, and the MSM and liberals are outraged.

Bill Clinton can rape and sexually assault women repeatedly and he's fetted as a "great man". Ann's single and she has "issues"?

Annie is a big girl. Don't try to tell her how to dress.

I am sure she knows full well the implications of a skimpy dress.

Some women use their bodies as weapons. Get it?

And to answer your question, I'd be delighted to have Ann Coulter as my daughter. I'd be delighted to have six daughters exactly like Ann Coulter.

I believe her parents deserve the Presidential Medal of Freedom for giving us her voice.

Personality disorder? She's driven and compulsive, but honey, flip through the DSM - we've all got our issues.

Eating disorder? Very likely. (And check out those nubs of nails)

Quite frankly, IMHO, each of us has our calling in life Providentially defined. For some, a "never-married" lifestyle, gives one time and resources to devote to their destiny.

Just read your FReeper profile Why do you think it is important that everyone know you are "mensa qualified" and a graduate of a top 15 law school?

And you think Ann Coulter has issues?

Been a while since I bothered much with the DSM . . . IV is it?

Guess I don't see her all that insecure at all. Don't see her compensating per se--certainly not over compensating.

Narcissistic . . . Don't think so.

I see her as very bright and very angry at what's been happening to her country. She's also angry that the MSM gets so much of the attention and air time to the destruction of her beloved country. I think she's very clever at turning the tide with attention getting phrases and sentences. More power to her.

I suspect she's intimidated most men who have caught her eye. She can no doubt live comfortably and carry out her mission in life.

Actually, I see her as pretty reality based; committed to her goals; great sense of humor; bright; personable; pretty well balanced psychologically and emotionally.

The stuff which catches the headlines is all reality based at least in one or more respects, imho. I think she deserves a medal of freedom or some such. I consider her a National Treasure.

Would be willing to note psychopathology if I saw it. I just don't see it . . . actually . . . at all.

Of course, I haven't interviewed her nor given her a battery of tests. Though I don't think either would reveal anything that significantly new.

You're a brave man!

No daughters yet, but when I have children I plan on raising them in line with New Testament standards of morality, which demand civility, self-control, fair-mindedness, and generosity (both financial and in personal dealings). I'm no longer Christian but I have great respect for these ideals.
