I know many people do the same.

Stay away from this thread until you get to watch the games, then come and share your opinions/observations.

I'm DVR-ing only the 3PM (EDT) matches, so I can follow the others live via Matchcast...

I was going to say “alternatively try this one“, and then I realised it‘s just the graphical representation of what you described, although this doesn‘t ignore Italy. Anyway seeing as I typed it out::

1958 - Brazil
--1962 - Brazil
----1966 - Hosts (England)
------1970 - Brazil
-- -- --1974 - West Germany
--- --- --1978 - Argentina
-- -- -- ---1982 - Italy
--- --- --1986 - Argentina
-- -- --1990 - West Germany
------1994 - Brazil
----1998 - Hosts (France)
--2002 - Brazil
2006 - Brazil??

Nah, he isn't doing it right. First of all, the Germans won in 54 and 74. 54*74 = 3996. It is 2006 now, and 3996-2006=1990. Who won in 1990? Why, Germany, of course!

I'm in the same boat regarding rooting for Mexico in World Cup, but I probably will. I had mixed feelings yesterday during the England/Trinidad match. I want England to advance, but I find myself liking the Trinidad team. Can anyone tell me if Trinidad still has a chance to advance??? It would seem like if Sweden loses to England and Trinidad beats Paraguay and gets more goals than Sweden then they should advance. Oh, yeah. Go Ghana!!!!! (at least tommorrow)...........

Any sport where players cannot use their hands.......... YOI!

;-)

And, ......... what's with a timeout during an Olympic curling/broom event?

What could they possibly be discussing --- where to go to dinner that night????

Grrrr, I can't see any of it because stupid NTL cable decided to start breaking down every minute as soon as the world cup started.

Get your engineers working faster, NTL!

Don't feel bad. This game is probably not worth your time. Currently it is Argentina 2, Serbia & Montenegro 0 at 35 minutes in. Argentina has probably had possession of the ball for about 80% of the game so far. It is ugly. Really ugly.

3-0 at 40 minutes. And another goal should have valid due to a poor offsides call (as far as I could see).

I think with Sweden's win yesterday, T&T was eliminated in all practicality -- I think they need England to beat Sweeden and T&T needs to beat Paraguay by a combined 3 or 4 goals to advance.

I think the more shocking development is that Paraguay, Poland, and Costa Rica are all eliminated after two matches each.

Is anyone besides me suspicious of the genealogy of:

a) Argentines with German surnames like Heinze and Peckerman.

b) Serbs named Milosevic

Umm, Argentina scored 3 goals already in 45 minutes.

And Maradona probably knocked down about 5 bratwursts in the stands during the first half.
