WASHINGTON, May 31 — After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.

Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

My current speciality is expansion into the Ohio Valley and British Illinois and the last days of Spanish Illinois, and the development of the westward fur trade up to the beginning of the Rendezvous period, ca. 1820 more or less. Interested in the westward migration out of Pennsylvania and such into Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and into Missouri, too, especially St. Louis of the time of the Chouteaus and Manuel Lisa and the Astoria expedition. Got interested in it sort of as a development of reenacting, but I like it just because it's an interesting area to study.

Before that, my special area was sort of the economic development of the woolen trade and it's cultural and political ramifications in 13th and 14th c. England. But I didn't get to continue on that...I took a ten year detour grading bad English compositions and to care for a sick parent and then to get married to a guy as nuts for history as I am.

And he lets me buy all the history books I want...

I just listened to a MIDI rendition of this, "Blessed Savior, thee I love," Spanish Hymn.

To me, it has the same tune as "Twinkle, twinkle."

But I agree, "Twinkle, twinkle" is a classic.

Anybody tell you about the tax cam in your bedroom?

People watch and attempt through osmosis to gain helpful tax advise from you while you sleep.

That is really... creepy.

from this site:

like this mutha?

seems a rawwwwthuh simpleminded blade and basket. I'll see if I can get better images and find a replica rather than a survivor of the actual period.

I don't know if you can catch this, but here at least is some more information.

http://www.kunstderfuge.com/_/BlessedSaviorTheeILove_%28nc%29simms-jr.mid

http://www.kunstderfuge.com/hymns.htm

If you go to the web-site, and then find the file, it should be able to load and play automatically.

Try singing Twinkle, Twinkle to the music.

Naval Boarding Cutlass
The Cutlass is a standard naval pattern, though it has become a firm favorite of the re-enactors of a piratical nature. The brass basket is distinctive and balances the 24 ½” blade well. A leather scabbard and belt frog are included.

MEASUREMENTS:

OVERALL LENGTH: 36 1/4“
WEIGHT: 2lbs 6oz

Order Information ** Item # SOH-CAS-SN610 ** Price $95.00

that is the NEWER style British cutlass of the 1850 period.

the one i mean is the Napoleonic era blade, which is even simpler in form, though the blade is more "curved", if i remember correctly.

it was furnished with a plain black scabbard & frog, to fit the waist belt. (i suspect the "locally produced" product was CRUDE. there was a WAR on, after all)

Depends I guess on the quality of the tax advice.

Texas...my grandma was born in Venus, my dad lives there now, as do my brother. A place dear to my heart.

Can't quite convince hubby to move there yet...although he does have Southern sensibilities...his family hails from the NC/SC border. Mine has been southern, for the most part, since the 1600s...

i'm planning a move back home to TX (Rockport) & to build & inhabit a 24x72 foot houseboat, within 5 years if not sooner, & stay till i "assume room temperature".

to quote a southron humorist, "when i get home, i'm gonna have my feet nailed to the ground".

i KNOW what you mean. see just HOW frustrating this CSMC outfitting CAN be!

as another example, marine bootees are SHINY-side OUT, which means they cannot be "bought off the shelf" from a CW sutler.

NOPE. that is the US pattern cutlass, of the WBTS period.

the British (Napoleonic era) one is MUCH plainer & all-black with "plain curved" blade.
