'South Park' Goes After Mohammad Censorship
Newsbusters ^ | 04/06/2006 | Greg Sheffield

Comedy Central's hit show "South Park" just won a Peabody, the highest award given to TV shows. The most recent episode dealt with the controversy surrounding depictions of Mohammad.

In the episode, everyone in the country is terrified that the Fox animated show "Family Guy" is going to show Mohammad. All in the town of South Park are afraid for their lives at the thought of Muslim retribution.

But in the end, Fox chickens out and censors the Mohammad character, covering him up with a black rectangle.

The show's main character, Peter Griffin, is told by his wife Lois that she doesn't want to cook dinner for his ex-girlfriend. Peter responds that maybe they can just have tea, to which the talking dog Brian responds, "You mean like the time you had tea with Mohammad, the prophet of the Muslim faith?"

Watch the clip .

Lois: But, Peter, I don't want to cook dinner for you ex-girlfriend. Peter: Well, maybe we can just have tea. Brian the Dog: You mean like the time you had tea with Mohammad, the prophet of the Muslim faith? Peter (to censored Mohammad): Come on, Mohammad, let's get some tea.

The "South Park" episode is "too be continued," and next week the show's creators say Mohammad will be discussed again. They dare their own network, Comedy Central, not to censor them.

I hope they plan on a detailed depiction, complete with the bomb in the turban, and pixelate the eyes and brow. There would be no way that anyone could identify it as mo'hamhead. It "could" have been a depiction of Christ.

South Park has the fastest turn around time on any animated show. Did the production company have this planned before Comedy Central removed the rerun of the Scientology episode, or was this a tweak at CC for pulling their show.

All hail Xenu!

All South Park episodes are done the week they air, i.e. the episode due this week for 4/12 won't be finished until 4/11 or very early in the morning on 4/12.

If they actually have the guts to show Muhammed now (yes, I know they did briefly in the past), I'll be impressed.

Hey, I like Family Guy!

South Park is hilarious, too, but it is stupid they seem to have a "feud," as the site terms it.

They are both great shows.

A feud? What's going to get them more ratings, a friendly, gentlemanly rivalry or a Jerry Springeresque 'feud'? I about guarentee that the writers of South Park and Family Guy LOVE each other's work, and are simply being savvy about helping each other out.

This makes for some good reading. When Cartman b*tches about family guy all his points are pretty much spot on. But Kyle is also correct many of the Family Guy jokes are funny.

I hope they talk about the part when old mad Mo 'married' the nine year old girl.

Or when he called for the slaughter of Christians and Jews...wouldn't that be great?

No inside knowledge but I'll bet the "writers of Family Guy" turn out to be Parker & Stone. Opinions?

Nah, the Family Guy creators are probably Scientologists. Maybe Tom Cruise.
