On Wednesday's ninth-season debut, Hayes' character, Chef, pops up in an episode which creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are devoting to his mysterious return to "South Park." They are expected to poke fun at his religion, Scientology.

While details are scarce, Comedy Central officials say the duo are putting the finishing touches on the episode (Wednesday, 10 p.m.) -- which, like many others, is being written and animated in less than a week.

Some of their best episodes have been the ones they've thrown together at the last minute.

Two last minute creations really stand out.. the Terry Schivo and Hurricane Katrina/Global Warming episodes.

This is going to be one of Trey and Matt's most eagerly awaited shows. I wonder if I should get up early to do the new episode ping tomorrow morning? :)

You know, when the stink was raised last week about the repeat of the Scientology episode being pulled, I wondered if it was a publicity stunt. Now I really think it is.

That said. I look forward to the new episode.

Its a hilarious combination of billion $$ Silicon graphics computer effects and a virtual version of construction paper.

I think Chef and any other Scientologists involved in getting this particular episode yanked (if there actually were any) made a PR mistake. It wasn't exactly one of the most memorable episodes anyways and it was in just as much bad taste as the episode about Catholics and the Virgin Mary bleeding out her ass or the Mormon episode where they chanted 'dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb' after every statement. Chef would have been better off sitting down with the boys and setting them straight on the actual facts and trying to get them to go for humor and not just over the top blasphemy (which probably doesn't relate to all religions)

Lets face it, these guys don't like religions. Doesn't mean they aren't funny as hell most of the time but they are agnostic libertarians. And for them, this is fantastic publicity to launch their new season. Its not like there are some huge number of people who are dying to see Scientologists skewered again and are going to turn in but at least it gets South Park into the rest of the media which otherwise would have paid absolutely no attention to the 10th season release. When the Catholic League got the 'Virgin Mary' eposide yanked from the re-runs, the media didn't jump on the bandwagon and make it a big story. And usually, the media doesn't miss a chance to bash Catholics. Apparently, the Scientologists could learn something from the Catholic League.

The ones that stand out were the ones making fun of Elian Gonzalez and the 2000 Florida recount.

Cruise and his Scientology comrades really screwed up by reacting the way they have.

It was actually pretty deep... of course, Kenny played the Terry Schiavo role and was the 'hero'.. it wasn't disrespectful to her, mostly disrespectful to the news media in this one..
