Brokeback Mountain: where the men like men, the women like men and the sheep are really scared...
I'm so glad it didn't win. Of course, I thought those hollywood types always say that just being nominated is enough of an honor. I guess we are seeing that they really don't mean it when they say it. Shocker!
I would presume that Mr. McMurtry, having written this story, thinks he knows something about cowboys of this period. But if he did, he'd know that calling a sheepherder a cowboy might have gotten him shot by a real cowboy at the time.
No "perhaps" pardner!
Why wasn't "Walk the Line" on the list for best films then?
McMurtry is like a lot of Texas liberals who grew up in small towns. Beneath the good old boy patina, there is a pric. Think Dan Rather.
I admit I am extremely sensitive and probably see stuff where it doesn't exist but when Wallace and Gromit won I noticed in a split second one frame from the cartoon showed some device and above it was a sign that read "Blow Suck". Immediately I presumed it was an inside joke by the directors. When teh two flamers with big bow ties swished up to take their award it was pretty obvious the joke was intentional. Gays and the way they write their BS (Ren and Stimpy and the like) ass fixation and gay sex fixation into their cartoons and such really chaps my rear. Don't let Ang Lee hear that my rear is chapped. Thanks.
I bought my family a Clear Play DVD player. It is lovely to watch movies and not have to listen to constant foul language.
"Goat ropers"
ROTFLMAO!
Yes, the production valuies are first rate and the acting was excellent (according to my daughter who saw it and who was in the movie business for five years). But I will never see it, because it is a propoganda movie. It was based on a lie. In that day and time, these two guys would never have touched one another in a place where they could be seen. "In the closet" means something.

Because We The People don't pick them, the "Academy" does. They disdain us, and the popular movies. Unfortunately.
It is WONDERFUL. There are various filters. You can choose to edit vulgarities, profanity, sensual scenes, explicit scenes, regular violence, explicit violence, "disturbing scenes"....
I haven't fiddled with it a lot, because I leave them all on when I watch a movie with the kids. I tend to turn the violence ones off when it it just me, because watching The Patriot or Under Siege is nearly impossible with them on. :)
Oh, sorry that didn't address your exact question. Yes, it just takes a tiny slice out where a head explodes, for example.
We tested it on Coming to America, and it did a terrific job of cleaning it up. I still won't show that to my kids. :)
I am waiting for a filter for Renaissance Man, because I want to show that one to my kids.
I read a review of Brokeback, I believe by Mark Steyn. I walked away with the impression that it was Same Time Next Year only with men and a gross-out pup-tent scene.
