The Drudge Report and Breitbart ^ | 29 Jan 06 | Matt Drudge

Link is on Drudge's homepage.

I wonder if the actors union has decided they may had gone too far and went back to the "bottom line?"

"Bottom line" and Brokeback Mountain?

I think it's odd that this is being played up as news. Brokeback Mountain was not predicted to win any of the SAG Awards. Maybe a few thought it might win Ensemble, but Crash was the only true ensemble film and was favored all along. The results tonight were almost totally predictable. It's not gonna win any of the Oscar acting categories either!

The only serious contest tonight in the film categories was probably between Paul Giamatti and George Clooney for Best Supporting Actor. It was great to see Clooney flop!

On second thought, the phrase "Clooney flop" is somewhat repulsive, so make that: It was great to see Clooney fall flat on his face!

From the Breibart article:

"Brokeback Mountain" has been considered the best-picture front-runner at the Oscars, whose nominations come out Tuesday with awards presented March 5. Its loss to "Crash" could prove a speed-bump on the film's path toward becoming the first explicitly gay-themed movie to win a best picture award at the Oscars, but it has dominated earlier Hollywood honors, so it will likely continue to be considered the favorite.

They are probably correct. The Oscar presenters will be awash with "Bareback" pink ribbons on their tuxedos and gowns.

What is interesting is why SAG chose to go a bit off the reservation?

Brokeback didn't win anything but the fact that they were nominated in four categories speaks for itself.

The Oscars are almost worth ignoring anymore.

It is all about pushing the liberal envelope!

If Brokeback Mountain wins best picture...I will totally write it off!

In my 35 years of living on this blue marble, I readily admit to not watching a single awards show.

If it won, people wouldstart calling them the Film Actors Guild

I stopped watching them when "The English Patient" - one of the most boring, inane, and pointless films ever made (but it had angst - Hollywood LOVES angst) won best picture (I think over "Babe" - which was a MUCH better film).

THis was followed by "American Beauty" - another loser film about loser people - so of course Hollywood loved it too and gave it the oscar.

They seem to look for a story depicting the most number of losers and low-lifes - then they glorify them in bad films - then they congratulate themselves on exposing another hidden lifestyle that must be exposed by them because our country is so borishly homophobic, male-dominated and evil that THEY must show the world the evil of the Western White man - then they give it the oscar and walk around patting themselves on the back for forcing America to re-examine itself.

Meanwhile, back in America, we re'examined ourselves and realized that we don't need their stupid movies - and their revenues drop - which is, of course, OUR fault - because we are too dumb to understand what they are trying to tell us....

Ain't it beautiful....

Maybe Hollywood is starting to understand the repercussions of embracing this garbage. It is effecting their bottom line. Many in the media were pushing for this movie but even Hollywood understands if Brokeback wins awards the American public will continue to turn its back on them.

Drudge sure has been talking about Brokeback a lot.

Ebert and Roeper (just to name two) said that this year they could name 20 'ten best' films.

Brokeback Mountain is Heath Ledger's picture. Everybody else has maybe one good scene (Jake driving, Michelle at the reunion, Anne's phone call). And as has been said, the plot has received a lot of ink, maybe too much.

Phillip S. Hoffman, however, out-acts them all with one [limp] wrist behind him

That's an interesting turn of events. I was listening to a radio discussion of the SAG's that emphasized that this is the award that means the most to actors because it is actors rating actors. So as far as snubs go, this one's a biggie. Heh heh heh.

I don't. They know that if they throw this thing in the ratings are going to be worse than the golden glibs ( not a typo).

I think they sense that the general public is not planning to watch because of "Bareback mountin'" so now they're hoping to convince us to watch by saying they dissed the movie.

Nice try .....I won't be watching. Think of all the advertising dollars the network is going to loose and who's going to want to pay for the ad time if no one is watching?

"In my 35 years of living on this blue marble, I readily admit to not watching a single awards show."

Ditto....
These people have to keep congratulating themselves with these kind of meaningless "awards" because the public just doesn't care.......

Ever since Hollywood made "Heath Ledger's fag flick" I feel like throwing away my "Patriot" movie.
