BAHA, 23 November 2005 — A 60-year-old father beat up his 22-year-old son who was refusing to marry his cousin, Riyadh reported.
The father went to his cousin and asked for his daughter’s hand for his son. The father agreed and during the engagement party, the son did the unthinkable. He stood in front of the matchmaker and said that he refused to marry his cousin. He said that his father had pushed him into marriage with the woman because she was a teacher with a good salary. The father then attacked his son who managed to escape to an unknown location.
"They all said I was daft to build my castle in a swamp, but I built it anyway. It sank into the swamp. So I built another one! It sank into the swamp. So built a 3rd castle! It burned down, fell over, and sank into the swamp. But the 4th one! Aye, the 4th one will be yours someday!"
Right ... okaaaay.

What would happen there if a woman tried to opt out of an arranged marriage to a wealthy male cousin?
It certainly would be even more difficult for a woman to refuse such a marriage. Notice that they say that when the man refused to go ahead with the ceremony he did the "unthinkable".
