Many years ago I actually read the James Bond stories by Ian Fleming. I remember him describing Bond as looking like "a young Hoagy Carmichael." When I heard about the new Bond, Daniel Craig, I did a search and came up with this:
Carmichael
Craig
Hoagy Carmichael official site
Well now...that's a remarkable likeness, isn't it?
When you look at that one particular picture of Craig, yes.

I think he certainly can be. If they go for the book version of Bond, namely the chain smoking, drinking, killer, then Daniel Craig can certainly handle it.
He will bring a new life to my favorite films.
I just want to see them bring spectre and Blofeld back into the movies, although I know for legal reasons this would be difficult.
Hoagy is the last person I'd think of as the model for James Bond! I remember Hoagy dressed more casually, not in a suit, and a hat perched on the back of his head. Not exactly sophisticated! Although in that bottom photo, he looks a little like Noel Coward...
Daniel Craig will do. Of course, I'm one of about five people who actually liked Timothy Dalton, even though his movies stunk.
I thought Dalton played well as a stone killer, but as my wife thought "no sex appeal,"
Ian Fleming. The real deal. He was James Bond. Check this BIO out...
I thought James Bond was a fictional character... :0)
I'll bump any thread that mentions Hoagy Carmichael.
"Stardust" is as good as it gets.
bump for reference
Exactly....
Fleming my have 'written' Bond, but Sean made him 'real'.
A writer may see a character one way in their head, but when played out on screen or stage, fiction does tend to have a life all its own.
Craig is Fugly....on all the chick lists I'm on,
it's like 9 to 1 against him with lots of "What were they THINKING!" and "Why not...... (Adrian Paul, Gerard Butler, Karl Urban etc) instead?"
Sorry, but skinny, pale guys just don't seem, erm,
powerful enough :)
Isn't he the guy who is appearing in that series on the BBC called Rome????

You named all three of the ones I thought should have been chosen (Adrian Paul, Gerard Butler (YES!), Karl Urban), and the other one who would have been an excellent choice would have been James Purefoy (Vanity Fair, A Knight's Tale).
There are a LOT of disappointed women out there in this selection.
Agreed!
