Cuba show on Food Network
The Food Network
Posted on 07/07/2005 1:24:20 PM PDT by baba1
Today there was an ad on The Food Network for a special they will be running on the food of Cuba. It is called Hemingway's Cuba. They will be showing the restaurants and hotels in Cuba, The only problem is the people of Cuba do not even have access to these places. This is just propaganda for the Cuban govt and I called Food Network and let them know it. I will not be watching anymore.

I disagree. This isn't propaganda. Cuba has a unique cuisine that is celebrated outside of Cuba- specifically Miami. This wouldn't be any different in shows that celebrate foods of many nations in the Middle East.
If this show is, as promised, a reflection on Hemingway's Cuba, then it actually would probably piss off the current Cuban government who wants to hide or downplay the prosperous days before the revolution.

You can bet they won't show the real Cuba, with run down cities, and emaciated people who look 20 years older than their age due to bad nutrition.

Alton Brown on Food TV Network supports "sustainable development". I don't know if he is ignorant on the subject or really doesn't believe in private property ownership.

I saw an ad for this and was pretty surprised as well. I think Muriel Hemingway is hosting--isn't it illegal for Americans to travel to Cuba? Shouldn't she get in trouble?

See post #9. Most of these shows reflect the Cuban culture in Miami. FoodTV is very non-political. Even the biggest Left Wing wako on FoodTV- Mario Batali, has avoided political comments on their show..
