self

We are in the process of getting estimates on a patio cover and cement for the flooring.

The salesman told me today that they spray for termites where the gound will be "disturbed" due to the pouring of concrete.

Is this a must to have done?

Advise as this would add $200 to the cost.

Sounds like a ripoff to me.

Get your termite bonding company's opinion on the situation.

That, or let a fire ant colony build a nest nearby. That's a guaranteed way to prevent termites, as fire ants will destroy them shortly.

But realistically, call your termite bond company first. I agree $200 sounds like a LOT of money for a simple spraying...

Sounds hinckey to me unless y'all got those Texas-style concrete-eating termites.

Nasty bastards, they are!

Concur..it is a rip off..and more importantly, I wouldn't trust the company who tried to sell you this to do ANYTHING on my house..Once a crook, always a crook....time to look for a new contractor, I think..

It is a good idea to treat for termites before you pour concrete...you will never have the chance to go back. This is keep a colony from having a safe haven.

$200 is high, so you may opt to have another company treat after the forms are set and prior to the pouring.

To: PeterFinn; All

We have those subterranean (sp. ?) termites here.

I called a few places in the phone book who pour concrete and all of them said that they suggest treating for termites.

I guess it wasn't really a rip off thing afterall.
