Neighbors sue man for letting peacocks roam
WOODSIDE, Calif. Some people in Woodside, California, want a home where the peacocks don't roam.
So the town is suing a reclusive resident who allegedly allows his peacocks to run free.
Officials have received 41 complaints this summer about the birds screeching at all hours, pecking at windows and ruining flower gardens.
Sheriff's deputies have visited Ronald Mullen's house five times, but have spoken to him only once. He's believed to be keeping at least 20 birds.
The town manager says Mullen can keep as many peacocks as he wants. But officials hope to restrain and quiet the birds. And they want to fine Mullen five-thousand dollars.

mmmm - roast peacock!
My friend in Sunland says there are a bunch of wild peacocks that roam around her neighborhood. They are pretty spectacular!!! LOL!
My crowd doesn't roam. They have a compound that's the size of my house, some covered, some not. They seem to like it.
I can tolerate the noise. They're SUCH interesting animals.
But screaming for help at such volume gets tiresome.
Back when I lived in Florida, my dogs were partial to Peacock Tar-Tar.

Eighteen. Started the summer with ten, but by July they had grown to eighteen.

She's pure white. Very rare, since her mother was half-white and her father was the big India Blue.
This summer there is a chick that started out as white, but now has dark speckles around his body and shoulders. And a yellow band around his neck. I'm hoping he'll turn into a male; should be gorgeous!
WOW! The whole thing is so fascinating!! How did you start an interest in the peacocks?
Well, for many years my Dad was CEO at a large winery, and there were hundreds of peacocks wandering around the grounds of the office building. Every time Dad would call me, I could always hear, over the phone, the birds hollering outside. After Dad passed, I missed those phone calls, and thought, what the heck.....I'll get my OWN peacocks. Fortunately I live in a wilderness area, and my neighbors can barely hear them.
Somebody down the road has at least two peacocks to go with his chickens, turkeys, goats, and visiting geese. They like to walk down the sidewalk and sit on top of cars. As far as I know, nobody seems to care.
I think they're beautiful birds.
And they're VERY interesting to study, as far as their little "society" goes. Of course the pecking order is there, but beyond that, there are times that the two males run the hens ragged, chasing them and grabbing at them. The whole cage sometimes looks like those videos from Afghanistan where the Taliban men chase the women around and swat at them with sticks. It doesn't happen often, but it's dramatic when it does.
Oh, and they make a lot more sounds than just that "cry for help." Very complex language.
Well, they are spectacular!!!! It must be amazing to watch them....
