Al Loney couldn't believe his stopwatch.
The Minnesota State Patrol pilot had been flying near Wabasha on Saturday afternoon, watching a pair of motorcycles racing each other along U.S. 61. When one of the bikes accelerated dramatically, Loney was ready clicking his stopwatch when the cycle reached a white marker painted on the roadside.

The Hayabusa is from Suzuki. If you like reckless riding movies you can watch some awesome trailers at http://www.ghostridermovie.net. You can also order the full movies there. The second one is incredible. Third will be released in october. These movies are definitely a must see.

"Honda 1000" only describes about 1 million possibles
could be a standard CB 1000, a Hurricane, or many others.
inquiring minds want to know.
With "second movie" I meant the "...goes wild" one. Not only the second trailer. The DVD is worth every cent. You got my word.
It was probably the Honda CBR1000RR, which came out in 04. It is the fastest bike Honda makes and goes 178. The really fast bikes are the Suzuki Hayabusa and Kawasaki ZX12 and ZX10. I have the Busa, and it matches the Kawasakis at about 185 in stock trim. There are no 'minor' mods that will put them over 200 (another media myth). However, defeating the speed limiter will get them to a little over 190. The Honda is not nearly as fast and unless there was some serious engine building going on, the trooper needs to re-calibrate his watch because he's about 30 MPH off.
murdercycle *ping*
I know for a fact that it is a 2003 honda rc51 1000cc twin. it is completely stock except for slip on exhaust, and 3 stickers.

A comment writer over at my pitiful blog did a bit of math that may come in handy. http://comedian.blogspot.com/2004/09/if-he-laid-it-down-at-that-speed.html
Speed checking with a time over distance method like this gets a bit sketchy when the distance is covered in a very short period of time. Given human reaction times, if the officer started the stopwatch just a moment too late and stopped it just a moment too soon, chopping say half a second to the time it really took to cover the 1/4 miles, the measured speed would have been 21 miles an hour less. The system uses a hyperbolic function to measure the distance, and down close to the origin its gets awfully sensitive.
Not enough to get out of the ticket, but maybe enough of an argument to get some mph knocked off it, which might matter if Minnesota charges per mph.
The article I linked to above puts it as a 2002 Honda RC51.
Funny, so far as I can tell this thread is the first time this story was posted.
Even stranger is complaining about a duplicate thread on a thread that was started 6 days ago.
why tell me? I didn't post this recently...
