~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread XV~
September 8, 2004 | bentfeather and Poets of the Lair

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Good morning, Sam!

WOW great picture of our troops. They are a beautiful sight! Nice poem by Nicholas Gordon. He is a good modern day poet.

Listening to the swing tunes as I type. Thanks for all Sam. We have rain today as I'm sure you know.

Have a wonderful day Sam.

Good morning, Sarge!

Rainy day on the East Coast. Not hard rain a drizzle rain.

Maybe now that my duties as chief typesetter for the club are over I can settle in to write poetry.

Sounds like a plan. Some Verse Soup, and Alliteration Salad are on the menu, I think...

the liberal state of things no doubt, its always been amazing to me how people will completely pan the great classics in favor of works that spout a political view from the far left, just an opinion but its mine

My Morning Mist

You are my morning mist,
my love in Autumn,
my warmth in Winter,
my joy in Spring,
my full bloom in Summer.
The soul of me lives in your heartbeat,
the smile on your face - is my love alive in you.
You are my everything
across the mountains dividing us
and know your face is the last face I see
before my eyes close at night
and the first face my eyes see
when my eyes open in a new day.

You are and will always be my love.

Dave waited for hours to capture this dragonfly on film.
He then added the affects in the backgound.
Thank You, Dave, for allowing me to use this photo.

Interesting. I find some of what she wrote difficult to comprehend.
The english language has changed just a little since her time.

It wasn't even that the poetry was political, it wasn't. It was just
downright abstract... moreso than the haiku we had to read. The
haiku from the school books must have come from another planet.
I never understood it till hopping onto this thread.

Mountains

The silence broke
I found my voice
and I began to sing.

I took a train out of Anchorage and looked
at Mt. McKinley every day- I began to sing
of mountains I have crossed
of mountains I have prayed to
of mountains yet to cross
and the mountains between us.

Of the mountains of strength that is us
built boulder by boulder in lean times
and sad, happy times together
and knowing our commitment
is forever in the stars
together
we are the mountain without a name.

yes the times have changed, and writing styles change as well
but a lot of what she wrote was woven around the love and tapestries of her time, and her love for her husband and family,he was also a poet and they often wrote viewpoints back and forth to eachother

I understand that, as well as her references to God. It's just how she worded
things that's confusing. It's difficult to understand exactly what she was saying.
If you don't understand the english of the day, you end up thinking "ok, so you
love the guy... do you have to say it in so many, uh, words?"
