It may not be to everyone's taste, but kombucha tea may be able to deliver the benefits of fasting, without the hardest part – the fasting itself. Researchers found that when the yeasts and bacteria from the fermented, sweetened tea colonized the gut, they altered fat metabolism, without any other dietary changes, resulting in lower fat stores.
At the center of these findings is the flora found in kombucha tea's SCOBY (Symbiotic Cultures of Bacteria and Yeasts), the gelatinous starter, rich in microbes, found floating near the surface of the fermented liquid. The probiotic microbes, including species of Acetobacter, Lactobacillus and Komagataeibacter genera, have previously been linked to a range of positive health benefits including lowering blood pressure.

What could go wrong?
Fortunately the body will draw from the body before the brain, I think.
But good point.
This was the experiment where they used worms as test subjects?
Caenorhabditis elegans, yes, that’s a roundworm, 1 mm long.
My favorite is the Synergy brand raw kombucha—-Lemon Berry, Strawberry Lemonade or Trilogy flavors are my favorite. They have a sweet/sour, zesty, fizzy kick to them. A whole bottle has about 12g carbs in it (from the fruit juice), so I usually only drink about a third of a bottle at a time. (Compare that to 52g sugar in the same size bottle of Coca Cola.)
Sure.
I’m working up the nerve to try it.
There is no animal blood or parasites to worry about. I have never tried it myself, but I expect it to have a tingy taste to it because it is fermented tea.
Right where they want us.
Kombucha tastes kind of like somewhat hard apple cider with a touch of beer.
I spent a long time trying to make it and throwing it out thinking I had got it wrong because it smelled so much like beer, which I don’t like. Then my daughter bought me a bottle and it smelled just like what I had made.... 😬
My favorite bottled flavor is ginger lemonade, if that helps!
