Kentucky’s House Bill 500 jeopardizes worker rights, eliminating breaks, employer liability, and longstanding protections, raising concerns about fair labor practices.
NEW “House Bill 500 leaves it to the employer to decide if they will provide an unpaid lunch break or force workers to juggle eating while on the job.”
“Additionally, at present, employers must provide at least a 10 minute rest period for every 4 hours of work in addition to a scheduled lunch period. House Bill 500 repeals that requirement.
The Government Does Not Care About You. You’re Already Working Your Life Away To Still Be Broke Now & Now This?…
This legislation is attempting to be passed for Kentucky but if they’re successful you know they’ll try to take it nationwide.

But I will tell you the two things we should be focusing on...
1) Securing our damned elections.
2) Protecting our state budgets from threats from Deep State.
Do you see anyone in any state legislature doing either of those things...
(crickets)
“1) Securing our damned elections.”
Yep, many courts are starting to rule in favor of election security. There was a story yesterday that a Fed judge had upheld Arizona’s requirement for proof of U.S. citizenship in order to register to vote. But yeah, the leglislators have to get off their butts and pass the laws.
There will be no rest breaks to eat your bugs!
It’d be nice if they got some press out about that then.
I’ll I read internet-wide and media-wide is “evil rethuglicans want people to be slaves.”
Messaging people! We need messaging out here!
Okay, I’m not a fan of regulation. If I worked for someone, I would not need a law to tell them I need a break. A decent person would not work an animal like that. And a law will not make anyone a decent person. Just because there’s a law preventing abuse does not make that employer a good person. I have worked for nasty people like this. No law was going to make the situation good. It is simply best to move on.
This is free market conservatives doing their thing
Would this apply to the legislature?
The title is misleading. It makes the bill sound to me like this is meant to benefit people who would prefer to work through breaks without being penalized, like both my husband and myself. His workplace in particular penalizes employees who would rather work through a break, but I get paid regardless of whether I break or work. He doesn’t. So, those in a position to make an extra 30 minutes’ worth of pay instead of a mandatory break will be able to do so if they choose.
Apparently, that’s not the case. They mean mandatory for employers to provide, not mandatory for employees to take.
If so, it’s a huge step back for worker’s rights. I sound like a commie, but people have to eat. At my last job, I was able to eat throughout the day while working, but not everyone has jobs which allow that. For instance, nurses and mechanics can’t just munch throughout the day.
But I will tell you the two things we should be focusing on..
Many people are fighting on different fronts. Why is that so hard for you to accept?
you restore the republic one step at a time. This step of a state eliminating mandatory business practice is in line with that. Let employees decide if they want to work with or without breaks. plenty of jobs around.
I just rejected a job offer I am very well qualified for and they were larger to have me work their, because of work space/conditions I won’t subject myself to and I told them at the interview they were setting up workers to have injuries.
You said a decent person. All too often a decent person isn’t in charge. And as they share their methods, others will join.
I realize decent people are not in charge. My question is why would you work for an indecent person?
It’s like the whistle blower laws, that you can’t be fired if you snitch, particularly if your employer is engaged in an illegal activity. Why would you want to work for a criminal? If the employer is penalized, it is still likely that they are the same worm they were before. Why would anyone want to remain in an unethical environment? It’s akin to working for a drug dealer or pimp. Why do that?
The person who won’t supply a break is someone not worth working for. Your existence would be a misery under such a tyrant.
Some will argue they need the job or the money. That same argument can be extended to why someone is a criminal.
The problem becomes the choices for good and fair employers diminish and thus choices to change go away.
The stupid party will stupid
