Cut and run on Ukraine? We should have never got involved in the first place. Our strategic national interests are not at stake.
What Arab States will get involved in a regional war with the US? Israel can defend itself regardless. We have enough munitions to destroy Iran or any other potential enemy in the ME. We don’t need any more Chicken Littles? Get a grip on yourself.
I was posted to our Embassy in Tehran from 1977-79. I left on March 31, 1979. I was there when Khomeini and the mullahs hijacked the Iranian Revolution and the first attack on our Embassy on February 14, 1979.
I can assure you the mullahs are based in reality. The Iranian people don’t support the mullahs, hence the Purple Revolution and other attempts to replace the current repressive regime. Anyone who knows Iranian history understands the role the mullahs have played in various power struggles through the years.
The Iran-Iraq war provides some insight into the thinking of the mullahs and the willingness and capabilities of Iranians to fight. You are wedded to a caricature of the mullahs and Iranians. They are neither illogical or irrational. The mullahs want to retain power and not risk their own lives in any confrontation with the US. We heard similar pronouncements from Iraq and their threats of rivers of blood. Pure BS.

My Take—and I have been (Fortunately) wrong before is as follows:
1.USA/UK will Not go to war with Iran.
2. We will bomb her Proxy friends to target drone only and leadership of Republican Guards. (Tents in the deserts) We will kill a few camels and pick-up trucks.
3. If we bomb Iran it will be a strike on weapons factories (where they make drones), done with tomahawks and rockets—not F-18s or F-35s. They might bomb a military base or sink a few Iranian Gunboats, again with rockets, not risking American planes. That will be it.
We will not go to war with Iran—But, Iran may well go to war with us. Launch their new supersonic rockets after our ships and take them out, one by one. Will Russia help them—yes.
I predict—Iran will explode a small a-bomb in a few days, to scare us and Israel off. Just a test to show they are a member of the Nuke Club.

Paving the way for Mitch’s donor’s business interests are one of the few things that can get Mitch excited. Mitch only cares about “American Blood” when it’s expanding/securing global markets.

The history here suggests a good kick in the gonads (to Iran) will NOT result in a war. In their 43 years of rule, in such instances the mullahs rage, maybe do something more of a token nature, then back off. Granted, only for a while.
I pretty much agree with you here. The mullahs are religious fanatics in that they will never give up on their agenda. But they also know when to beat a tactical retreat. All covered in the Quran...
If Iran explodes a small nuke, Israel will hit them with 40 or 50. Bye-bye, Iran.

The Iran-Iraq war was particularly bloody from the Iranian side, I recall. Human wave attacks sometimes involving Iranian children...
But, then again, the whole thing was pretty nasty: Saddam of course made heavy use of chemical weapons.

Neither side distinguished themselves in battle. The Iranians used children to clear minefields. The Iranians were unable to mount any real offensive nor were the Iraqis. It was a war of attrition with both sides suffering substantial losses.
The Iranians would suffer the same fate as the Iraqis if they confronted the US.
