With the Iowa caucus beginning in just over two weeks and the New Hampshire primary hot on its heels, Gov. Ron DeSantis' once-promising bid to be the Republican Party's 2024 presidential bid seems to be already over.
As the (Huffing and Puffington Post) is reporting, the clamor for DeSantis to be the face of the party went nowhere as Donald Trump not only hung onto conservative voters but pulled away from the Florida governor despite DeSantis' political operation that proved to be ineffective — when it wasn't being plagued with infighting and layoffs.
Now, with well over $160 million spent and a DeSantis' ally admitting the campaign has entered a hospice phase ("make the patient comfortable"), a former Republican colleague of DeSantis from the U.S. House of Representatives didn't spare the Florida governor when assessing the wreckage left behind.
Noting how DeSantis started out on a high and went immediately into reverse, ex-Rep Dave Jolly (R-FL) quipped, "He started the primary on third base and stole second.”
Adding further insult to injury, he pronounced, "We’ve now witnessed one of the most expensive and embarrassing collapses in Republican history.”

RDS didn’t “collapse”, he never had a lead to begin with.
He was too clever by half, running for reelection, lying about his plans while his donors planned a campaign, quitting the job he just won, it goes on and on.
Classic astroturf campaign.
The consultants get rich and everybody else gets a good laugh.

well, desantis DID spend more than the $130,000,000 Jeb! did ...
He QUIT? The BS will never end. Lawfare won Trump more support, period.
OMG So true!!

What were his handlers thinking?
DeSantis is in the lead to be the nominee if SCOTUS says Trump can’t be prez. If the Colorado and Maine ballot cases are heard by SCOTUS and SCOTUS agrees with the anti-Trumpers’ dumb “insurrection” argument, the Republicans will need a plan B candidate.
LOL...THE best line of the day and absolutely 100% true.
Jeb! 2.0. The GOPe donors wasted a lot of money in their attempt to use puppet DeSantis to take down President Trump. It makes me smile to think of those leftist oligarchs wasting their money.
I am sorry, but as bad as DeSantis is, nothing compares to JEB! (Please clap!)
If that happens, the Republican party should dissolve itself.
He was 7/2 and presumptive MAGA heir apparent and is now 38/1 and can’t fill a ballroom in his home state.
Lawfare did him in?
The worst campaign in GOP history is responsible. Period.
The face that Harvard created.
“DeSantis is in the lead to be the nominee if SCOTUS says Trump can’t be prez.”
It scares me when I realize that there is NOBODY in the running who can do the job if Trump is taken out — for whatever reason.
Is it legally possible for someone currently not in the running to step in and declare his/her candidacy? Seriously. DeSantis has become a buffoon. One-little-two-little Indians aren’t qualified. Christie is a RAT.
I think DeSantis has had this deer-in-the-headlights look.
