Several recent vetoes seem out of character, even at the national level for Dems.
Free condoms for high school kids. Housing bill that would have declared it a human right. Decriminalize psychedelics. Custody courts must consider gender affirming. Ban caste discrimination.

Not necessarily. Depends on the Republican. If his campaign ads show film clips of LA and SF, then yes, it is too late for Newsom. If not and instead argue about the Capital Gains look back rules for annuities, or whatever, then it doesn’t matter, as the Republican is doomed, regardless.

He’s running somewhere.
He’s trying to create a back story he can run on.
Forget the entire rest of his career, the MSM will focus on a narrow window and push his “middle of the road” accomplishments.
This is the reason he’s also backing Ronald Regan talking points lately too.
