College professors are "inflating grades and watering down their courses," write Mark Horowitz, Anthony L. Haynor and Kenneth Kickham in Inside Higher Ed. The “broke-woke-stroke” convergence has pressured faculty to lower standards, they write.
The three professors conducted a national survey of tenured professors in English, math and sociology at public universities of average quality.

“Broke” colleges and universities "scramble to attract and retain students, whatever their intellectual readiness," they write. Faculty are under pressure to please the customers. If too many switch to an easier major, the professor could lose his or her job.
“Woke” sensibilities have politicized student performance disparities, especially by race, they write. A Boston University teaching guide on the “hidden curriculum” suggests it “may not be fair or even valid” to hold marginalized students to such expectations as doing the readings, arriving to class on time, participating in class discussions or using “standard English.”

Yes to say the least.
Author forgot one.
Joke: the teaching ability of the “professors” is a joke (with some exceptions primarily in STEM).
It has been a slow decline since the 60s. It took 65 years but now the effects of a dumb and pampered population are being seen in declining infrastructure, increased crime and a reduction of civility.
I read that and I think then what the hell are they doing in higher education? They can't all be there to play basketball and football.
And the professors suck at teaching also.
“This generation.... frightening.”
No kidding. I’m appalled by the young docs with whom I have dealt lately.
Their fund of knowledge is sorely lacking.
Hey, the largest crop of el/hi and university grads might be barely educated and our soldiers can’t even load an M250 let alone fire one but at least their leaders will know the proper pronouns to use when they negotiate our surrender after losing the war with Mexico.
It’s all about the Benjamins.
Believe it or not DEI “inclusiveness” has also invaded USA Swim Teams. Riley Gaines’ former swim coach at the University of Kentucky, Lars Jorgensen, was fired for over working the girls, yelling at them and putting too much emphasis on winning.
This complaint about “ about over training” is also invading club teams. Some parents claim that working the kids so hard discourages swimmers who just want to compete.
Jorgensen was very successful at the University of Kentucky, SEC champions in 2021. … but some of the parents and the school, evidently thought that too much emphasis on winning violated DEI rules.
