I’ve seen a couple of photos of small groups of Chinese men squatting on the ground after being stopped and temporarily detained by Border Patrol. They’re always healthy young men, with one who looks a few years older. They’re later released into the continental U.S. Has anyone ever spoken of finding these groups of men later, perhaps in rented rooms or camping on public land? Where are they going? Or are they being hidden in our cities’ Chinatowns?

In 2019, just before Covid, I was hiking in Jasper Nat’l Park (above Lake Maligne) and came across about 15 young Chinese males, pretty healthy looking, and wearing matching military boots (but civilian clothes). They stopped for a break, so I did too, there was one that spoke broken English, so being curious, I wanted to know if they were actually Chinese or Taiwanese or whatever. The English-speaker said they were “students” from Beijing and in Canada to take a summer class in “Cartography.”
Gave me the creeps, especially as the other guys silently stared at me and the English speaker as if thinking “don’t tell him anything.”
