Do you have Medicare/Medicad?
If you are a veteran, check with the VA.

Put an Alexa in every room - then sync them to your phone so you can call out to Alexa to make a phone call for you.

Alexa won’t do a 911 call but every fire and police department also has a non-emergency number and you can put that on your cell phone - which puts it on your Alexa.’’If you have kids or grand kids I’ll give you some more ‘feel safe’ stuff without imposing.

If you mean an emergency alarm to call for help, the thing that works the best is ( but is expensive ) is an Apple watch. My father has the same issues and that is what he ended up using . He was using one of those life alert type units, but they kept on going up in the monthly fee ( and was losing connection a lot ). In the long run it was cheaper to get an Apple watch.

One thing an Apple watch has over something like an Alexa, is if you pass out and fall, it will call for you. With an Alexa, you have to be conscious to ask it to make a call.

Be aware of LifeAlert. You have to agree to a three year contract until death of the patient or 24 hour coverage by an assisted living provider. My hell is they refuse to believe my Mom is in a 24 hour senior assisted facility and keep on monthly billing me. Eff LifeAlert.

We are both 72 and healthy, so not in need of this solution yet. But I really appreciate your thoughts about the Apple Watch as a solution. That had never occurred to me before. What a great idea, especially if it will make an automatic call for you. I’ll have to remember that for the years we need it.

Thanks!

how about an inexpensive flip-phone with an inexpensive pay-as-you-go phone plan? that way, just keep it charged and on your person ... keep it in your pocket and it goes where you go and you can make regular calls in addition to 911 ...

Same problems. Ought to have one, but would need one that would autodial a landline. No cell signal at my retirement BOL, and I’d rather die than have Alexa in my house anyway.

Friend with severe vertigo was given an Apple Watch (I think) that does the deed, by her kids. But she’s in got good cell signal.

The SimpliSafe 5 Piece Wireless Home Security System on Amazon is $199 and includes a base station (necessary), keypad (necessary), an entry sensor, a motion sensor and a keyfob. The keyfob has a red panic button that calls the Simplisafe emergency phone number. Seniors in my family used the Simplisafe system and keyfob for five years and need the panic button and emergency services four times. Super great system and super fast service. Of course, a person needs internet and wifi to make Simplisafe work.

That’s what I just added not long ago. Apple Watch has fall detection and now it has CRASH detection. Calls for help with gps coordinates automatically

Did not know that about Apple watches. Thank you for the helpful information. Painful initial price, but at least there’s no subscription needed, so it’s a better investment in the long run.

As for me, I serve the Lord and accept His life giving grace.
I live alone & my 4 stepdaughters live far away
My system is thus:
Each AM I group text the 4 stepdaughters, should I fail, they will attempt to contact me, should that fail, they will contact my local PD for a welfare check.
An added benefit is they use the group to keep in touch as siblings.
My aim is not to prevent the inevitable, I’m at peace with that. My only wish is to be found soon after, the rest is in His hands. The Lords name be praised!

The main thing is the watch is always on you. He fell a few times and it called 911 right away (also sent an automated call to my sister). One time he was having a stroke and couldn’t speak but was able to touch the watch. EMS was there in 5 minutes.

How do you handle the time charging the watch? Obviously it is off of you then.

but at least there’s no subscription needed, so it’s a better investment in the long run.

For what it was costing per month him for what he was currently using, the watch paid for itself in under a year.
