Global sugar shortage sends prices to decade high

There are more troubles in the food sector as market manipulation has driven up the price of sugar while creating what appear to be impending sugar shortages.

A lack of deliverable sugar ahead of Friday’s expiry has sent the white sugar futures contract for May to its highest level in more than 10 years.

According to John Stansfield, a senior sugar analyst at DNEXT Intelligence, the open interest for white sugar, or the number of contracts still needing to be closed, implies a hefty delivery of the commodity above 880,000 tons.

The problem is that, when coupled with short positions, these contracts β€œdon’t have the physical sugar to tender,” meaning the markets are once again irreflective of reality and more supply troubles are on the way.

In the last three weeks, white sugar futures have surged in price by nearly 20 percent, hitting levels not seen since November 2011.

On the flip side obesity and diabetes fell off sharply.

Sadly we still have seed oils, and high fructose corn syrup to contend with.

Big Healthcare is very worried as the sugar shortage may cut into the expected, projected type 2 and type 1 diabetes customers.

On the flip side obesity and diabetes fell off sharply.

The latter is mainly due to the former, which is mainly due overeating, usually fat foods, not zero-fat calories sugar. More than 90 percent of people with type 2 diabetes are overweight or affected by a degree of obesity.

Michael Yon has been warning everyone for a year or 2 of a coming global famine (some areas mass starvation. Other rich areas shortages ).

I have not, but I’ll give it a watch when I go in to work tomorrow.

I cut back my sugar intake, changed my diet, I don’t eat fast food, or highly processed stuff often anymore. I don’t drink sodas, and only have a beer or two a month usually on that magical Saturday when I go to get a bar burger. I get my fats from meat and dairy, try to eat fresh vegetables and fruits. Most of my meals are made from simple ingredients. I also walk on my lunch breaks at work, and try to get an additional 30 minutes of vigorous cardio and some weight training in at least 4 days a week.

So, I’ve dropped about 45 lbs since November of 2021. Once I’m below 220lbs I’m going to start letting my beard grow a little longer, but until then it’s going to be 1/8 stubble. Getting close to that goal.

Thank goodness I have 40 lbs of sugar I bought months ago, anticipating such a thing in the near future. I don’t even use it much since I switched to Truvia, but I’ll use it in a pinch.

“I have not, but I’ll give it a watch when I go in to work tomorrow.”

Where do I send a resume for where you work? Building diagrams and floor plans seriously cut into my FR and movie watching time at my current job.

My stupid boss is always like “Work harder... stop smoking so much” and junk.

Pro tip: ditch the cigarettes and get a pipe. You can smoke one of those for 45 min.

I have been thinking about getting a smoking jacket and loafers to really do it right... make each session an even hour.
