Come on, President Trump. We’ve got national problems (e.g., illegal aliens, involvement in “other people’s wars”) for you to address. Don’t take on LOCAL/STATE issues.
Most of it is not federal issues and we do not need anther Lyndon Johnson telling us HIS federal government will “solve” problems that rightly belong handled by the states; which is entirely how the “deep state” has gotten so big and powerful - you give than an inch and theiy’ll take a mile.
My goofy idea of the day is replace the GI bill with a house. Complete the required service and you get a house that can’t be seized or otherwise attached for the rest of your life. Place some short term restrictions on it like residence or sale but I think we need more property owners than college grads.
We should do the same thing with all our social service programs: “Here, you own this house now. You have a real stake in the future of your community.”
I know about it in Greenville and it is almost nonexistant for vets on the street, meaning I can’t find one. They just are not out here homeless at all or for long.
The biggest problem in homelessne@ is drug abuse
They are! I’m a Vet and I’m fine, but female Veterans are the fastest growing segment of our homeless population thanks to us spending 30 YEARS in ‘The Sandbox’ for nothing! NOTHING!

So, what he is saying is to cut defense spending? Because most of the aid we sent to Ukraine was old, unused systems that came out of inventory. The dollars were already spent—years ago.
Trumps statement is an example that he says things he knows aren’t true in order to generate red meat responses from the ill informed.

The problem with that idea is that if you just give people a house and they don’t have to work for it, they won’t appreciate it, and they won’t take care of it.

I appreciate the sentiment and it COULD work, if Human Nature wasn’t what it is. Have you ever seen any Section 8 housing/house left BETTER in the end?
Nope.
Most homeless have mental health and/or drug related issues. They’re barely capable of making it through a day, let alone being a homeowner.

It wouldn’t work for everybody. For those it would help, you don’t need to get rid of the GI Bill or involve the government. Tunnels to Towers already does that for war widows and disabled veterans. Give to them, or start your own non-profit. Coordinate with builders, employers, educational institutions.

We probably shoot cut defense spending if we just have billions of dollars worth of stuff that we don’t need and doesn’t need to even be replaced
So, instead of deficit spending and raising the debt ceiling so we can send it to Ukraine, Trump is going to deficit spend and raise the debt ceiling to spend it on drug addicts, non-citizens and vets that should have care provided by the VA.
The truth is little will end up going to vets and the money given to the states will be sucked by the useless programs they create to benefit donors and friends.
In the end, the homelessness will continue, but the money will be gone.
This is not a solution.
