Conservative commentator Mark Levin blasted the Ford Motor Co. and other automakers for removing the AM radio frequency from their vehicles.
Levin labeled the move an assault on conservative talk radio...

Yep. Kill AM talk radio unless it can successfully migrate to FM....
I have never listened to AM and have no interest in it.
Too much yammering as it is.
Wouldn’t buy a car w/o AM. So Ford is going the way of Bud Lite. Buh Bye.
Do not get too excited Mark, AM radio died February 17, 2021.
RIP Rush
Most of the big AM stations moved to an FM “copy” station long ago. Plus, you can stream almost any station now via the internet with smart phones etc. Much ado about nothing.
Their excuse is to save money? It costs NOTHING to add the circuitry for AM if you have an FM receiver.
Why limit consumer choice? Strange.
I really miss my 8-track tape player.
Doubtful. Some automakers (BMW?) removed AM more than a decade ago for interference reasons. More importantly, the BIG AM stations have FM repeaters on digital channels that come in MUCH clearer, and new FM radios pick up those stations.
Even when Rush was still around, I was able to stream his shows for quite a few years.
I don't think this is a move against conservatives. AM is basically an obsolete method of broadcasting.
Which is too bad, because it is effectively "free" for the listener.
Most? Try some.
The one near me did that a year of so ago because they got a good deal n a station with very limited reach. About one county vs half of two states for their am signal.
8 track
casette
cd.
now Am
All are gone.
There are plenty of ways to get that signal.
Most everybody has a cell phone. either a local AM station app/ streaming web site, or an I heart type app gets you 500x better signal clarity and little to no loss.
That is a really stupid conclusion or accusation but not surprised from this idiot.
AM radio is FAR better than the crap on FM.
I can pick up signals from hundreds of miles away. While there are a lot of ads (like FM), it still has the most interesting stations. On our local area AM - there are stations playing real oldies (from the 20s-50s), 70’s Soul, talk radio, foreign language radio, etc....
Ditto, and most of them advertise their FM freq first, with the AM getting a secondary mention if any.
Rushbo was the last to refuse to go to streaming; he had his economic reasons, but all present-day audio is streamed somewhere, iHeart, TuneIn, Audicy, etc.
If this becomes the norm for Ford despite efforts, every FReeper should designate a day with the wife/hubby/GF/SO to go car shopping and drinks/dinner after.
Of course, the entire experience will be predicated on models known NOT to have AM and an abundant waste of the dealer’s time once the final objection is reached after enduring the process just to reach the punchline:
MUST have AM factory radio.
I’m making plans myself.
I listen to talk radio on my phone (podcasts). No commercials. AM radio is not needed.
