Shatner lived in his vehicle for a while in the early ‘70s after the original Star Trek went off the air in ‘69.

A friend of mine had tickets to see him at the Redford Theater in Detroit yesterday......
Who would have thought that Shatner, with a rather ho-hum forgettable role as Alyosha in The Brothers Karamazov (1958), would have had such a lengthy career?

As a kid, I loved watching Star Trek, but even then, I recognized Shatner as a major ham.
But as I aged, and he did too, I came to appreciate his seeming lack of self-consciousness, in that he would say or do anything or any line, no matter how hammy or degrading it was, and he seemed to do it just to entertain.
Like a jester. And he did it with a smile.
His music endeavors hit me absolutely like that, they were so bad they became hilariously good to me.
I have come to like him immensely, and that famous scene “Thank God for guns, huh Jerry? Only in America! Sweet Land of Liberty Valance!” only reinforces that.
Also, I thought the portrayal of the parody of “Star Trek” in “Galaxy Quest” by Tim Allen (as well as the portrayal by the rest of the cast) was pricelessly funny!
One of my favorite comedies...:)

Shatner’s shtick is a parody of his own self. I can’t think of anyone else who has done that, at least to the effect he has. One of the greats, in his own right.
I love that. Never seen the show.
I heard Takai on Howard Stern a while back. He is one angry little man.
