They haven't—at least so far—accused Donald Trump of "holding a gun to the head" of the GOP. But it's early days yet in the 2024 Republican primary.
MSNBC's Morning Joe certainly headed in that direction today, with Jonathan Lemire claiming that Trump is attempting to "blackmail" the GOP into nominating him.

Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.
Morning Schmo is one of the biggest idiots on the idiot box.
Barney Fwank Jr. speaks more Dung Beetle brilliance.
If anyone would know about blackmail it would be Joe Scarborough. Care to talk about Lori Klausutis died in your office Mr. Scarborough
By what? Threatening to maintain his lead in the polls?
Absolute BS!
Wifey says jump, they ask "how high?"
Trump doesn’t NEED the GOP...he didn’t before and doesn’t now!
How can anyone blackmail a political party?
It’s worth noting too, that nobody would have a discussion like this, except for the fact that Trump has significant support in the Republican Party. The primaries and caucuses will be decisive.
Whoever wrote this does not understand that it’s not the party who nominates the candidate. It’s the voters who select the nominee. Anyone could run on any party’s ticket. For example, Bernie was a socialist who decided to run as a Democrat. It really upset the party as he drew away many votes from their preferred candidate. Another example was Hillary. She had to spend a record amount of money and twist some arms behind the scenes to finally prevail. Had the party just picked her she could have spent money fighting the Republican candidate. Instead, she had to fight all the other would-be candidates.
IF Jonathan Lemire wants to help defeat Trump he and Joe should ‘out’ all those Republican office holders ‘they say don’t like Trump’ but are ‘afraid’ to go public with ‘their truth’.
Then they can find out if those turncoats are rewarded with taking back the party for RINO’s OR if we vote the little twits out of office.
Come on Joe - out the Republicans who say they don’t like Trump. We’d like their names.
For people who talk about “Our Democracy”, they really don’t seem to be on board with the concept of the voters choosing the nominee.
It’s laughable how terrified the Left is of Trump. Even years after he’s left office, he is still the object of their fear.
I don’t see blackmail attempt. I did notice there was an article talking about difficulty running 3rd party under state sore loser laws. Maybe that is what the media thinks would happen if he lost the nom. Depending on the number of candidates, if he can maintain his core die hard supporters, he could easily win just be getting 30-35% of the primary vote with the other 5 or so candidates splitting the remainder. If the opposition coalesces around a single challenger the math changes a bit and it will be a brawl all the way to the convention.
It’s tough when you blackmail the GOP by having a lot more supporters than anyone else. Sounds like blackmail to me when you threaten to win elections without cheating.
And how is he doing that Joe? Rona McRomney is demanding that all candidates who want to compete in RNC debates must take an oath of loyalty. I’d call that blackmail, and extortion.
“It is often contracted by men who have weak backbones and strong, attractive wives.”
With face lifts. She hardly moves her mouth now.

Blood oaths like Mormans and Freemasons do? I wouldn’t. That’s treading upon dangerous territory.
