Fighters told Sky News the Russians are advancing over the bodies of their colleagues who have been killed in firefights.

Russian father had his daughter taken away after she drew an anti-war picture in art class, reports say

https://www.businessinsider.nl/russian-father-had-his-daughter-taken-away-after-she-drew-an-anti-war-picture-in-art-class-reports-say/

- A Russian sixth-grader drew an anti-war painting in her art class, Meduza reported Tuesday.
-The girl was placed in a shelter and the father charged with “discrediting” Russia, Meduza said.
-He fears he will permanently lose custody of his daughter if he is jailed, his lawyer told OVD-Info.

A Russian single father had he daughter taken away and placed in a shelter after she drew an anti-war picture in art class, according to multiple reports.

Aleksey Moskalev, from the city of Yefremov in Russia’s Tula region, was charged for “discrediting” the army in December after his daughter, Masha, protested the war at school and online, the independent Russian media Meduza reported on Tuesday.

Masha first protested the war in April 2022 when her sixth-grade art teacher assigned everyone to draw pictures in support of Russian troops in Ukraine, Meduza reported.
Instead, Masha drew the Russian flag with the words “No to War” and the Ukrainian flag with the words “Glory to Ukraine,” the outlet said. The artwork also featured a woman with a child, holding up her hands as rockets were flying from the Russian flag, a photo published by another independent Russian outlet, OVD-Info, shows.

After the painting was reported to the principal of the school, Masha was taken to the police several times, and her father was called in to speak to officials from Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).

Several months later, on December 30, Moskalevs’ home was searched and ransacked by FSB officials who also took all of the family’s savings and snapped pictures of the anti-war drawing, Meduza reported. They took Masha to a children’s shelter, it added.

Moskalev’s lawyer told OVD-Info that he was interrogated and told that his daughter had also made anti-war comments on the Russian social media outlet VKontakte. He was charged with a felony charge of “discrediting” the Russian army, the lawyer said.

Moskalev was able to retrieve Masha from the children’s center a few days later and both have since left Yefremov, Meduza reported. It is unclear where the family is now, but if convicted, Moskalev faces up to three years in prison, the outlet reported.

Moskalev’s lawyer told OVD-Info that he hopes Moskalev will avoid jail time, but that “if the officers decide to be stubborn...they might put him in prison and send his daughter to an orphanage.”

The lawyer said that he hopes Moskalev will avoid jail time, but that “if the officers decide to be stubborn ... they might put him in prison and send his daughter to an orphanage.” The father said he has no other relatives who could look after Masha if he was sent to prison.

Since the start of the war last year, Russia has persecuted those who opposed the war in Ukraine. Under Russian law, using the words “war” and “invasion” can land someone in prison for up to 15 years.

Under Russian law, using the words “war” and “invasion” can land someone in prison for up to 15 years or a fine of 30,000 to 50,000 rubles ($400 - $650). Criminal charges are made if the offense is repeated within a year.

“you are still pro Uk”

I believe you are referring to Ukraine: correct abbreviation for Ukraine is either UA or UKR.

I am anti-Putin invasion killing both Ukraine civilians and military as well as Russian military.

It does appear that Ukraine will have to retreat from Bakhmut or risk surrendering an army they can ill afford to lose. The question then becomes, what happen after that? What does RUssia do next.

“Nearly 2 million barrels of Russian diesel are stranded at sea because no one wants to buy them”

https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/russian-diesel-stranded-sea-eu-sanctions-fuel-price-cap-ukraine-2023-2?op=1

-As much as 1.9 million barrels of Russian diesel are in storage at sea, according to Kpler data cited by Bloomberg.

-That’s the most since October 2020, when energy markets were still reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic.

-A warm winter and new sanctions have eased demand for the commodity.

As much as 1.9 million barrels of Russian diesel have been put into floating storage due to lack of buyers, according to Kpler data cited by Bloomberg.

That’s the largest at-sea buildup since October 2020, when global energy markets were still reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic, which triggered a sudden collapse in demand.

A record number of Russian diesel cargoes were sailing last week without a destination, Bloomberg reported.

The growing stockpile of unsold diesel comes amid an unseasonably warm winter that has reduced consumption of heating fuels.

Meanwhile, the European Union imposed additional sanctions on Russia early in February, banning refined oil products and imposing price caps alongside G-7 countries.

Before the sanctions took effect, Europe imported considerable amounts of fuel in preparation for winter. But with a warmer-than-usual season, demand for diesel has eased and Europe enjoys its largest stockpile in years.

Russia is having trouble finding buyers for its crude oil as well. A cargo of Russian oil is headed to West Africa, a region that produces crude and presumably has little use for Moscow’s supplies.

On Friday, a tanker named Theseus arrived in Ghana, carrying about 600,000 barrels of Russian crude, according to Bloomberg. Ghana itself is an exporter of crude and sits next to Nigeria and Angola, the two largest oil-producing countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

The EU similarly banned Russian crude and imposed a price cap in December. The punitive measures are part of a series of sanctions from the West, after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the war on Ukraine last February.

The embargoes and price caps are designed to keep Russian energy flowing to global markets while hitting the revenue the Kremlin can generate for its war efforts.

Russian oil heads to West Africa for the first time since 2018 as Western sanctions leave Moscow scrambling to find buyers
Zahra Tayeb

https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/russian-oil-ghana-first-time-in-5-years-western-sanctions-2023-2

-A shipment of Russian crude is headed for storage tanks in Ghana, Bloomberg reports, as Moscow scrambles to find new buyers.
-That marks the first time in 5 years Russian oil has been delivered to a West African country.

-Russia is under pressure to prop up its oil and gas sales after revenue crashed nearly 50% last month.

Russian oil is heading to West Africa for the first time since 2018 as Western sanctions force Moscow to look for new buyers, according to Bloomberg.

On Friday, a tanker named Theseus arrived in Ghana, carrying about 600,000 barrels of Russian crude. The oil was supposed to be pumped into storage tanks at the Tema Oil Refinery, people familiar with matter told the outlet.

Ghana itself is an exporter of crude, transporting an average of 140,000 barrels a day over the past six months, according to Bloomberg. It also sits next to Nigeria and Angola, the two largest oil-producing countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

The new development comes as Russia faces pressure to bolster its oil and gas revenue after logging a nearly 50% drop in January, worsening a budget deficit. Sanctions imposed on Moscow after it invaded Ukraine have dragged down the price of Russian crude and deterred buyers, leading to the slide in energy earnings.

The latest round of sanctions to hit Moscow’s crude include a European Union ban on Russian refined oil products, such as diesel. It adds to an EU embargo on Russian seaborne crude imposed last December, and a Western-inflicted price cap.

In response to the sanctions, Russia has scrambled to find new buyers for its oil and gas, exporting large volumes to China and India at heavy discounts. Just this month, Russia sold the most crude and fuel oil to China since invading Ukraine last year.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has slammed the sanctions as “stupid,” and has vowed to slash its oil exports by 25% in a bid to push up prices for the West.
