My only moving violation in all my 48 driving years happened in similar fashion. Last day of the month. Car following at unsafe distance. I goosed it up to 50 in a 45. Sherriff’s deputy pulled me over and ticketed me for 5 over the limit. The main factor in keeping me docile was a cigar box full of bunk weed under the passenger seat.

When I lived in the seattle area (I drove for 41 years there), I averaged three pullovers and one citation every year. I now live in rural Kentucky and drive MUCH faster and treat all stop signs as yield signs. In eleven years I’ve been pulled over twice. Both were because I was driving a sports car.

I like to tell people they don’t use cops to keep our speed down here. They use deer.
