Vanity: Getting stalked by police on roadways.

I've had a clean driving record for close to 30 years. Every few years a cop will latch on and give me a driving test which I have passed. I thought I would report on today's test. It is clear in my mind I was clearly getting stalked. After the traffic light changed to green, the police car was slow to respond to the traffic light and didn't keep up with traffic flows. The question I have are police officers immune from distracted driving laws?

I took a Driving Test to get my license. An Examiner employed by the State of Florida rode with me. In the State of Florida we were supposed to have a valid driving license before we drove. When the Police pulled one over and they did not have a valid driver’s license, they took one to jail. They did not give one a driving test.

And if something happens involving the police I will not accept the medias account of the event until the investigation plays out, the media is almost always wrong and they stir up hate and hysteria and then maybe days later admit we were inaccurate with our first reports, too late the damage is done
I absolutely agree. The media loves a good riot.

Yes, I think he was in that Bing Crosby movie.(s)
It sounds like he was released. I would think they would have impounded the car when you exceed the speed limit by 90 mph.

thanks for attesting to my original post But I never answered your question in my first post, but I will now. Yes, they are immune. You don't like it, go stop them and write them a ticket.

I was driving some years ago in the Chicago area. I was doing 75+ in a 55 zone in heavy traffic. A motorcycle cop pulled up behind me and stalked me for a while going with the traffic flow. He decided to pull a van doing 55 in the right lane,,

On same run a sheriff’s deputy pulled me over, saw the wrist and started a lecture to slow down
"You know what the penalties are for animal cruelty in this state? Well they're probably pretty stiff! Poor little guy. Probably kept up with you for a mile or so."
Sorry to post that to you. But I've been dying to use that quote throughout the whole thread and yours was the closest one that gave me an excuse to post it.
I feel better now.

I’m thankful for good cops. IMO, infiltrators have joined the ranks to bring law & order.

Appreciate the considered reply, sarge83. Helps me see clearer, thanks.

He did this for a few blocks so I floored it, and he instantly turned on the lights.
My only moving violation in all my 48 driving years happened in similar fashion. Last day of the month. Car following at unsafe distance. I goosed it up to 50 in a 45. Sherriff’s deputy pulled me over and ticketed me for 5 over the limit. The main factor in keeping me docile was a cigar box full of bunk weed under the passenger seat.

“I’m thankful for good cops.“
Me too, s&sf, a great society needs great cops. A must have.
It would be wonderful if our law enforcement agencies took on integrity and truth as their badges of pride. That would feel best ever!

This was a local event versus a highway event. My guess is cop decided to blast me with a license plate reader and had to wait for the results. Pulling off the roadway wasn’t going to change the outcome..
I don’t know what you mean by “this”. There is nothing in your post that suggests you were pulled over.
But yeah, it’s not a guarantee. It just reduces the chance of an “excuse” type of stop. That is, dim license plate light, etc.

That is the best approach. Pull into a parking lot and check your phone for messages.
One of the more interesting stories I saw regarding this was the guy that was in his car, in a parking space at a Starbucks, and his engine turned off, checking his phone. A cop pulled in next to him and wrote him a ticket for using his phone while being the operator of a motor vehicle. His logic was that if you are behind the wheel and the car can be started, it’s the same as driving down the road.
i.e. they’ll use pretty much anything if they really, REALLY want you. That’s why I think a dashcam is so critical.

They use that logic for DUI's for sure round these parts. Using it for a cell phone is awful.

I had a cop pull me over in Raymond washington about 35 years ago in my old Subaru DL. I was paranoid about small town cops and, sure enough, he tried to get me for going 55 in a 45 and it was totally bogus. But he decided to drop it because I think I sort of intimidated him as follows: I proceeded to call out the speed limit in every part of my route through town including each point at which the speed changed.
Fact is, my eyes were stuck like glue to my speedometer all the way through town. I knew the pullover was baloney, and it became clear to him that I KNEW it.

That’s good to hear!
But I’m selling it. I drove 150 miles a day on my commute, but now I drive it to church every couple of weeks. I just don’t need it any more. And I got “it” out of my system.
I think the manual transmission is key to longevity, btw.

When I lived in the seattle area (I drove for 41 years there), I averaged three pullovers and one citation every year. I now live in rural Kentucky and drive MUCH faster and treat all stop signs as yield signs. In eleven years I’ve been pulled over twice. Both were because I was driving a sports car.
I like to tell people they don’t use cops to keep our speed down here. They use deer.
