Numerous crew members walked off the set of the Alec Baldwin film “Rust” in protest hours before the actor fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on Thursday, while others had shared concerns about safety, according to reports.
The Los Angeles Times reported it had spoken with three crew members who were on the set of the film at Bonanza Creek Ranch in north central New Mexico leading up to the fatal shot that would ultimately leave Hutchins, 42, dead.
Those members complained that the low-budget film in which Baldwin was both starring in and producing, were not following standard safety protocols. The Times reported it had reviewed a text message sent by one of the crew members to the film’s unit production manager just before a live round was fired by Baldwin during filming.
“We’ve now had 3 accidental discharges. This is super unsafe,” that message reportedly read.
Per the sources, there had been a number of incidents with a prop gun on set, and nothing was done about it. In one incident, Baldwin’s stunt double had reportedly fired two rounds from a gun after being told it was inoperable, or “cold.”
“There should have been an investigation into what happened,” one of those people told the Times, citing issues with gun safety. “There were no safety meetings. There was no assurance that it wouldn’t happen again.”
“All they wanted to do was rush, rush, rush,” the source added.
Not only were issues about three total prop gun safety incidents shared by multiple people working on the film, but six camera crew workers had walked off the job to protest their working conditions on the day of the tragedy. Complaints included long waits for paychecks, long hours on set and long commutes to the remote ranch in Santa Fe County.

From the 911 call:
“We had two people accidentally shot on a movie set by a prop gun, we need help immediately,” script supervisor Mamie Mitchell told an emergency dispatcher. “We were rehearsing and it went off, and I ran out, we all ran out.”
The dispatcher asked if the gun was loaded with a real bullet.
“I cannot tell you. We have two injuries,” Mitchell replied. “And this (expletive) AD (assistant director Dave Halls ) that yelled at me at lunch, asking about revisions….He’s supposed to check the guns. He’s responsible for what happens on the set.”
How do you have three accidental firearm discharges? I’ve never had one.
The assistant director is responsible for gun safety ?
This gets worse and worse…

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
While we’re asking “how” ..... HOW do “prop” guns get loaded with REAL bullets???
Of all the people to shoot/kill someone ... Alec Baldwin. His tweet captioning a video of an officer-involved shooting from Huntington Beach, CA some years ago “I wonder how it must feel to wrongfully kill someone ....” Karma is a b***h - I guess now he “knows” first hand. Unfortunately, it doesn’t bring his victim back .... the media is making Alec out to be a victim ... of course.
Sign showing: Number if days since worker shot on this picture.. Zero
New working title: I shot the cinematographer.
Sorry but if a proper investigation is being done, a few things would have already happened and would be continuing to happen 1) Baldwin would have been arrested immediately on suspicion of homicide. Then tested for drugs and alcohol 2) The police would have immediately diagramed the position of Baldwin, the position of the woman killed and the man who was also shot by the same bullet.3) the police would have determined from witnesses exactly what activity if any was occuring on the set at the time of the shooting. All three should have been completed within four hours of the shooting. Then the relationship between Baldwin and the woman he shot should be investigated in great detail. Then and only then could a non biased rational DA decide what if anything to charge Baldwin. So far it appears the fix is already in.
Its not a prop with a live round and a firing pin. Its a weapon and he is a murderer.
Totally agree.
Baldwin like all leftists doesn’t want to spend his money. He only wanted to spend your money
This gets worse and worse…
The video linked here gives a pretty good explanation of how these things are usually handled on a movie set. Even the terminology is correct, for the most part.
No need for any in depth analysis. Low budget, not paying what for competent armorers, gun had live rounds in it because of wide spread incompetency, some one got killed.
Has the OSHA investagation started yet?
I agree. He decided to aim and fire.

We had one in basic in the Army, but only a blank. I was not involved. It was while turning in our rifles after coming back from the range. You are never supposed to leave the range with ammo (even blanks) or brass. I don't know what happened to the individual, but it was not handled lightly. Apparently, someone left the range with a blank (I hope it was a blank) in his rifle, and discharged it horsing around on line at the arms room.
Wait until you see the 24 year old female waif that was supposedly the gun expert / firearms prop master.
I’ve been shooting BB guns since age 8 or 9, and firearms starting with .22s since age 12 or so, and I certainly couldn’t have safely done that role at age 24..
