“What on earth for?”

Because I’m very familiar with Windows and Office so I know how to use them.

I also like that you can find books that teach you step-by-step how to use Windows or Office. I like having such info on paper outside the machines. I buy them at bookstores, and they’re not cheap. Typically, they cost $40-$50 each. They are much easier to get accurate info from than it is from the Web.. They are not written by Microsoft.

Trying to find the info you need online is hit or miss.

I don’t want another Mac at this time. I’m not familiar with any other operating system outside of Windows and iOS.

According to my system, it’s updated and current. This computer has been super slow since I got it.

OK. I understand what you are saying.

Do yourself a favor, and try LibreOffice. It's free and runs on any OS. You can try it and see if you like it. It will also recognize, open, and edit your existing files.

I really think you'll be surprised at how easy it is to pick up--especially if you've already been using MS Office.

If you end up not liking it, you can always just uninstall it.

Well they “released slick fingers Bill” so I guess this is their newest release.

I upgraded my “hack in a box” laptop. An older HP Elitebook (G5). Upgraded ram and ssd in it already. It’s been mostly reliable running Win 10 and none of the updates have failed on it yet.

Dropped the Dev Preview of 11 on it last night. Seems to be working ok today. Changes are mostly underwhelming so far. I mostly use this for my finances(Quicken), a few of my writing projects(Libra Office), and some light gaming (Neverwinter).

OK, I downloaded it. It a little time to open it, but I have it now. I opened the spreadsheet function, and played with it a couple minutes. Of course, it’s similar to other spreadsheet programs and I’ll play with it later.

Thanks.

I know this thread is from yesterday but I was curious about playing videos on W10. PROCON, Did you buy a DVD player? Microsoft did away with Windows Media player in W10. I just got a drive with W10 after my drive with W7 crapped out but my DVDs won’t play now. So I got to looking and found that MS did away with their player and now, you have to ‘buy’ it (what a freaking ripoff). Anyway, I just wondered what you did. Pinging you too day in case you might have a word of advice or instruction. :) Thanks guys.

Hello, in answer to your question regarding watching videos on my Win10 computer, I meant you tube videos, not from the installed DVD player.

I rarely use my external DVD player anymore with the advent of Amazon Prime and Sling Internet TV which I subscribe to and watch on my bigscreen.

I did however watch a few DVD's on my 'puter from the old home movies from the '80'-'90's which I had converted from VHS to DVD format.

Now let me backtrack a bit and excuse me for jumping all over the place as I'm a computer idiot.

In order to play DVD's via my computer DVD drive, I downloaded this freeware and it has worked great for me:

Download VLC for Windows 10

Good luck!

I’ll second the comment about VLC. Great software, at least on the Mac, I haven’t tried the Windows version, but it’s probably just as good.
