Will pancake bowls be the next big food trend?

As IHOP announced that flip’d by IHOP will be opening this summer, the highly anticipated pancake bowls will be joining the menu. While the “bowl” isn’t a new concept, a pancake bowl could replace those baked oats, pancake cereal and a variety of other food trends. Ready to get a taste of one?

According to IHOP, the Signature Pancake Bowls will feature the brand’s world-famous Buttermilk Pancakes. Those pancakes will be topped with a variety of mix-ins plus real whipped butter.

It will be interesting to see what mix-ins will be available. While some people will want some fruit (or healthy-ish) options, many people might want to turn this idea into pancake dessert. From chocolate chips to caramel drizzle, there are many ways to bring the sweet to the bowl.

For guests who prefer to leave the toppings to the experts, the Strawberry Banana bowl is a tasty choice. The banana pancakes will be combined with more bananas, strawberries and whipped topping. In a way, this pancake option offers the perfect balance in every bite.

What would you put in pancake bowls?
As shared by IHOP, flip’d will offer Build Your Own Signature Pancake Bowls. With mix-ins from the Top It Off! Bar, guests can make the ultimate creations. From fruit compotes to sprinkles and blueberries to chocolate chips, the combinations are almost endless.

While this idea is available at flip’d by IHOP, it seems likely that many people might borrow the concept. Although pancake boards and breakfast boards have been a big food trend, these pancake bowls could be the next big thing. Get ready for the flood of TikTok videos.

There is something about the “bowl” format that people find appealing. Whether it is fun to eat or that perfectly composed bite, there bowl is here to stay.

What do you think will be the next big food trend? Are you excited to try these pancake bowls?

I had the egg, cheese, bacon bowl a few weeks ago at iHop. It looked good. Just sayin...

I'm always amazed at how many people (including in my own family) eat dessert for breakfast - pancakes smothered in butter and syrup, stacked-up waffles with whipped cream, massive cinnamon rolls. See lots of kids enjoying this too.

No worse than Calvin's "Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs."

No wonder diabetes has become and epidemic in this country ( a close friend, who is a school nurse, told me there is a record number of kindergarteners coming to school with diabetes).

The infantilization of America continues.

That certainly one way of looking at it. My first though was that one of these bowls is a supersized portion of low-quality calories that most fat Americans do not need.

IHOP is having an identity crisis.

Their menu is so volatile, it's not worth going there.

Remember the stunt they pulled last year where there said they were changing to International House of Burgers?

That sounds pretty decent. I eat eggs nearly every day for breakfast, occasionally accompanied by an additional protein and usually with some kind of starch. This week I made homemade cornmeal mush and had to use it before it went bad - so that was breakfast all but one morning this week. It's amazing how far one cup of cornmeal goes.

I think the next big food trend will be WaterCrest sandwiches.

Sandwiches filled with water and toothpaste.

Might have something to do with breakfast costing $100 for a family of four by the time you eat, drink, tax and tip.

Sounds like a time saver to me. Eat and brush your teeth at the same time. It will be a must for people who have no time in their lives for breakfast.

It’s for tricking ferals into eating with spoons and fingers rather than forks and knives.

Imagine what other health issues they'll be coming to school with if they get the Covid jab.

It’s like PopTarts.

Coca Cola and easy women.

The snack that always satisfies.

Love Sunday brunch. Love pancakes as part of Sunday brunch. Do not love the idea of a pancake bowl. Even worse, a pancake bowl from IHOP. Sounds revolting.

Those look terrible. I realize that everything you eat ends up in the same place, but I prefer the traditional buttermilk pancakes, with sausage/bacon on the side, and a little syrup. I wouldn't eat pancakes if covered with fruit and whipped cream. I don't like jams or jellies either.

IHOP used to have the best butter pecan syrup, but they must have decided to buy it from someone else. It tastes nothing like the original. Haven't been to an IHOP in years because of that. About the only time I go out for breakfast is when I'm traveling, and I prefer Bob Evans, and their sausage gravy, because there are none within 100 miles of me. Cracker Barrel is my second choice, because, once again...none are near me.

"I eat eggs nearly every day for breakfast..."

I make them at home 2-3 times a week. I make either an omelette with ham, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, cheese, and black olives, or two eggs over light, or just plain scrambled eggs. Once in a while I'll make home fries, but always have either an English muffin or two slices of toasted Italian bread with my eggs.

Re the photos: Why would you want to dig your pancakes out of a bowl instead having them on an easy-access plate?
