So the thousands of Roman soldiers who lay dying in the German mud of Teutoburg forest in 9 AD must have, beneath the pain of their wounds and the fear of death, felt a keen surprise. Truth. Similar to the Samurai culture which I’m getting into now. Asian history is harder for a westerner to learn. We all know names like Julius and Augustus and William the Conqueror. Keeping up with the Japanese names is very difficult.

I believe you are correct. It was Wilheim the first I believe. And they later found archeological remains that positively identified the location of the slaughter after the statue was erected and finished. But the statue is in the Teutoburg Forest.
