A cop’s claiming a chocolate store refused to serve him.
And he’s not the only one.
On Tuesday, a Seattle policeman visited a cafe called Chocolati.
He was accompanied by a trainee.
Allegedly (apply that term to the whole of this story), the man just wanted a box of chocolates.
Hence, he put in his request.
The employee’s response, according to the Post Millennial:
“No, I won’t serve you.”
The afternoon encounter came courtesy of a “white female with green streaks in her hair” who likely lacks a “Fraternal Order of Police” license plate.
Indeed, no box was had, and that’s too bad — after all, the company’s website states thusly:
Chocolati was established in the year 2003 with the philosophy of making delightful chocolate confections that were both aesthetically creative and of the highest quality.
The site also champions the goal of growing “at a steady pace without compromising the quality and the personal attention we give to our customers and to our chocolates.”
Mission — it might be said — unaccomplished, including the occasion of the Post Millennial’s follow-up.
The outlet says it reached out to the artisan chocolate house, and here’s how things went:
[We] contacted Chocolati for comment and a store employee answered the phone. Upon informing the employee of the purpose of the call, the employee said…”Is this how you want to spend your time? Getting essential workers in trouble?”
The essential chocolate worker offered a suggestion:
“Shouldn’t you be spending your time harassing homeless people?”
The Millennial proposed that it leave a number for the owner or manager to call, which prompted, “You really want to spend your time getting essential workers in trouble?”
After the publication told the worker it would try back another time, they agreed.
Purportedly, the staffer provided a supplementary recommendation:
“…and go f— yourself.”
Well, per the stated mission, it really was “personal attention.”
Very personal.
Police — even the good ones — are surely having a rough time of it as of late.
For around a year, the nation’s seen marching throngs chanting “Stop the police,” “Defund the police,” and other, less printable transitive verbs.
Add to that a heightened scrutiny over conduct — which to be clear, in principle, I believe we need — along with increased, highly-charged prosecutions, and the effect is sure to be fewer cops.
As I covered last July, in New York City, 179 officers filed for retirement in one week.
By October, the Big Apple has seen an 84% increase in retirements.
Such a societal turn against law enforcement led to the airwave removal of three-decade hit Cops and the cancellation of Live PD.
Even Paw Patrol and Lego took a hit.
A backlash is mounting against depictions of “good cops,” on television and in the street. (Via @amandahess @nytimes) https://t.co/zeUbfP9TPm

And on Tuesday, I covered an actress’s vow to not star in cop shows in order to fight white supremacy.
As for the cafe controversy, the Millennial added this:
UPDATE: Following the publication of this article, another police officer contacted The Post Millennial with a similar story from a different date where they were refused service at [another Chocolati location].
Seattle PD is reportedly at its lowest deployable number of police since the 1980’s.
Cops back then were heralded as heroes.
For years, Americans all over wanted to be like CHiPs:
These days, it seems — at least in some situations — Chips can’t even get chocolate.
Tell Antifa that they’re cop-lovers...
Better yet, post a public notice that Chocolati is a cop-free zone, and money from the register comes with no law enforcement attached...
Portland has been doing that for years.
What a foul group of people they have selling chocolates.
Nasty attitudes and no respect if you are different than they are.
They need a lot of publicity about their customer service policies.
If it happens again good people ought to trash the place.
So, you can refuse service to a police officer but you can’t refuse service to someone who’s black, Asian, gay or transgender. right?
What happened to equality under the law?
Or are people equal only based on profession?
Can this cop sue the shop owner?
Maybe it's not so bad. The employee could have given him the chocolates after tampering with them--as has happened elsewhere when cops go out to eat.
The cop should have taken the chocolate then told the guy to call the cops.
How about the police, on their off-time, make a couple of large signs and either parade with them, or post them in a major publicly travelled area, that says:
“No chocolate, NO POLICE”!
That should give the store’s owner/manager something to chew on, and the loudmouth employees a one-way trip to the unemployment office.
I agree. And the lawsuit leads to discovery, bad publicity, and boycotts from some of their loyal customers that are part of the silent majority of MAGA voters. If the decision ends up being for the defendant, there is a nice precedent established for businesses to refuse service based on political grounds.
Winner!
I have no particular love, or hate for Seattle Cops, but they have a harder job than they did back in the 80s

got set up on a blind date. Not a bad looking gal. Small talk, before dinner... asked me what I did for a living. She looked at me and said “so you beat people up for a living”. I got up from the table, put enough money in front of her for cab fare and left. I WAS NOT going TO PAY to eat a crap sandwich! LE was a crap sandwich, but you get paid to eat it. It’s a job. I wasn’t about to eat a crap sandwich from this witch on my dime! I don’t know what happened with her after I got up from the table and I REALLY don’t care. This was over 40 years ago. The only change is that it has gotten MUCH worse.
Good for you!!!
Another day in the lives of our police.

White trash gets a job
Thank you for understanding. I didn’t want to be a jerk, but to have someone falsely accuse me...
