A number of major news organizations worldwide, ranging from Scientific American and The Columbia Journalism Review to The Guardian and Al Jazeera, have signed a pledge to begin referring to “climate change” as a “climate emergency” in their reporting.
“Scientific American has agreed with major news outlets worldwide to start using the term ‘climate emergency’ in its coverage of climate change,” the publication announced Monday in a tweet to its 3.9 million followers touting “the impact we hope it can have throughout the media landscape.”
“We Are Living in a Climate Emergency, and We’re Going to Say So,” the headline of a Scientific American commentary published Monday declares. Claiming that that climate change is “the biggest environmental emergency to beset the earth in millennia,” the piece announces the name change:
“Given the circumstances, Scientific American has agreed with major news outlets worldwide to start using the term ‘climate emergency’ in its coverage of climate change.”

Climate change or climate emergency, I don’t care. Makes no difference to me whatsoever what they call this quackery. It’s still fake.
I guess they haven’t convinced enough gullible people yet.
That was my first thought as well!
If by “emergency” it is somehow similar to driving with the “emergency brake” engaged in your automobile, why, yes, it is an “emergency”. A completely unnecessary and thoughtless act, but what the heck, sometimes forgetful people are like that.
And they don’t understand why other people are pointing and laughing at their frantic antics.
The media sure know how to turn a nothingburger into a major crisis, and to reap the maximum benefit.

Taking bets on what comes next, “climate catastrophe”, “climate armageddon”, “climate apocalypse”?
First it was GlowBull Cooling, then GlowBull Warming, then GlowBull Climate Change, then Covid-19...
Maybe they are figuring Covid-21 is not going to work for them, so they’re going back to climate, but substituting Change to Emergency.
I’m at a loss.... using up cool/warm/change, I thought they’d go with Climate Sameness.
There have been ZERO deaths to date fro. Climate change according to a scientific study. Where is the emergency?
In about 3 years they’ll have to change it again and start calling it a “climate disaster” or “climate calamity”. Then maybe the “climapocalypse”. Not sure how they raise the stakes after that.
