WATCH: Hoover Visiting Fellow Bjorn Lomborg Slaps Down Leftist Climate Alarmism on Kudlow

Hoover Institution visiting fellow Bjorn Lomborg joined Fox Business to slap down the left’s climate change fanaticism.

Lomborg told Fox Business host Larry Kudlow that there’s “a lot of hype going on with climate change.” He suggested that there has been a lack of a sense of proportion when it comes to the focus on climate change. Specifically, Lomborg stated that “the U.N. Climate Panel tells us that in the 2070s — so, more than 50 years from now — the net impact of global warming will be equivalent to each one of us losing [only] somewhere between 0.2 and two percent of our income.”

Lomborg put the astonishingly low threat estimates into context: “By then, [the 2070s,] we’ll be 364 percent as rich as we are today as a planet. So, instead of being 364 percent as rich, we’ll only be 356 percent as rich.” Lomborg concluded: “Yes [climate change is] a problem. No, it’s not the end of the world.”

Bjorn is more reasonable but I think his fundamental premise is flawed - man is the biggest contributor to our climate changing for the worse. Climate has and always will change. I would think that the sun is the biggest reason for this.

Is there value in finding new energy sources and to practice good stewardship of our environment? Of course there is.

But do I want the US government or any government leading the charge, especially at the expense of more taxes or individual liberties?

Hell no!

And Bjorn, IIRC, is not a conservative. But, unlike others, he has a functioning brain and isn’t afraid to use it.

Lomborg is consistently one of, if not the best, liberal voices against the progressive climate agenda. Always worth a listen!

Lomborg has been very consistent for two decades plus.... the best thing for the environment is “wealth”.

Wealthier societies are cleaner societies who do more to preserve and protect the environment.

“Man is the biggest contributor to our climate changing for the worse”.
I don’t know how you can make this statement without knowing what other changes will take place or what the projected man caused changes will be. The temperature on earth in recorded history has changed drastically from what it is right now. In geologic time scales it has changed in ways that have killed most of all life. What these will be in the future is not known; nor is the timing.

Take one day at a time and adapt to what comes. Humans have been doing this for thousands of years, but I second your “hell no” to government control of freedom or attempts at control of climate. These elites can’t do anything right.

Lomborg is an early dissident who reaped hostility and attacks for his work Skeptical Environmentalist a number of years ago. He has always been a voice of reason and advocate for reasonableness in addressing environmental issues. He is not a total skeptic about AGW but shows that it is not a problem worth wrecking western civilization over.

I actually wrote that man-made global warming premise is flawed. That’s Bjorn’s premise, not mine.

Bjorn Lomborg's basic premise is simple. He believes in climate change.

But he also believes that if the world were to spend ALL OF ITS WEALTH on reducing climate change and nothing else, that it would still only reduce the earth's temperatures by a minuscule amount that would not impact anything significantly.

He knows that of the top 25 things that people want their government officials to deal with, climate change is not even on the list.

His approach is that with only a finite amount of wealth available in the world to deal with global problems, things like clean drinking water return much more bang for the buck than lowering CO2 levels to "save the planet".

Besides, climate change is not the real issue for the Left. This is why they have spent decades and decades trying to get people to agree with them and haven't been successful.

Because the real issue is their wet dream of a socialist revolution. If they can destroy the capitalist, free enterprise economic system by eliminating fossil fuels which powers it, then they can install their socialist/communist big government system to replace it.

Bjorn Lomborg is a pragmatist more than an ideologue.
