My husband and I are recently retired and looking to relocate to the southeastern area of Tennessee, somewhere near the vicinity of Delano. If anyone would share tips, i.e. locale, realtor options, I would be grateful.

If you look in Cocke county, next to Gatlinburg, you can find great deals. Cocke is moonshine country where the movie Thunder Road was made. Of course you may have to shoot a few meth heads from time to time, but it’s sort of like living in Indian country. The land is cheap and the neighbors are real Americans! We love it! Not for everybody, but sometimes, that’s not a bad thing.

I once considered buying like 80 acres in Hohenwald, Tennessee, with its own caves on the property and everything. But alas I didn’t.

Speaking of caves...I'm reading a new book (non-fiction) from the library about wild southern caves. According to the book we have over 10,000 caves in Tennessee. Who knew?

Benton, TN....

In 1979, I was an assistant football coach at Maryville College...We were returning from Orlando, FL after playing University of Central Florida...

We were in a bus and we were stopped in Benton by a Sheriff’s Deputy for speeding...

There on 411 Hwy right in the middle of town was a speed limit sign that read SPEED LIMIT 34 MPH...

I kid you not...LOL

Oh. My.

Son played college soccer. All the fam met at Maryville for one of his matches. He had started every game until that one!

Speaking of speed traps... Met a man down here in AL, who got a speeding ticket in a small town near where I grew up in VA. Goes from 55 to 45 to 35 real quick.

I have no idea...It’s a small town on Hwy 411 South...
Before I-75, it was the main road to Atlanta and on into Florida...

I’ve been in East Tennessee for 72 years...Been all over the Smokies, Tellico...I fished hazel Creek, Forney Creek and several of those listed...This is the first time I’ve ever heard the name Benton MacKaye Trail...Honest!!!!

Beautiful area. Right next to the mountains, but only an hour from Chattanooga, not much farther to Knoxville in case you have a desire to head that way. But the mountains, Hiwassee river, some nearby TVA dams, and fun twisty roads in the area.

I’m not terribly far from there, just north of Chattanooga where I work.

Do the TVA fish glow in the dark?

Just the ones that hatch near Browns Ferry Plant. :)

Seriously, no. I live about 6 miles from the Sequoyah Nuclear Power Plant. Other than not having to use lights at night, there are no ill effects.

Oh just stop it with your nasty-nice posts and Freepmails. I tried extending a welcoming hand, got my hand bitten. Now done. Bye.

If you have California plates make sure to remove them. They are thick as fleas around where I live and the locals are starting to get, a little, aggressive toward them and their realtors.
