FBI: Bank robber arrested after giving teller his state ID for “withdrawal”

January 27, 2021 CWBChicago Citywide Edner Flores | CPD

A Chicago man is facing federal bank robbery charges after he allegedly complied with the teller’s request to see his ID during a hold-up this week.

According to an FBI agent’s complaint, the robber wrote “$10,000” “No die packs” and “armed” on a deposit slip and handed it to a teller at PNC Bank, 3337 West North Avenue in Humboldt Park, around 11:45 a.m. Monday.

The teller tripped a silent alarm and then told the robber that he needed to fill out a withdrawal slip — not a deposit slip — if he wanted to get money.

Edner Flores Jr. obediently filled out the correct paperwork for his request and handed it back, the FBI agent alleged. And when the teller asked for his ID to complete the transaction, he reportedly forked that over, too.

Ironically, the secretary of state issued Flores’ ID just three days before the hold-up, so he was lucky to have one. Sorta.

I was once in the bank in the local big city (where I used to work) and a homeless person walked up to the teller and asked to withdraw a trillion dollars.

Everybody had a good laugh, including security who hauled them out of the building.

Believe it or not, I had that happen to me when I was a teller.

A young 18 year old idiot stole a friend's checks, forged them and gave me his real ID when he tried to cash them. I wasn't falling for it and he got cold feet ran off and left his ID.

Didn't take the police long to track him down.

Maybe he’ll turn out to be Antifa or BLM member and they’ll decline to prosecute.

What happened to all those rank and file FBI agents who were going to blow their whistles on all their corrupt bosses?

Wille Sutton, who became famous for robbing banks during the 1930s was asked why he robbed banks, Sutton simply replied, “Because that’s where the money is.”

What??? Wasn't his signature legal enough?

At least he tried to be more legal than the illegal voters and unidentified millions of voters in the last election. FBI should be investigating the voter fraud, which is a lot more damaging to the country than a simple attempt to defraud a bank.

I heard a story years ago that two guys were on trial for robbing a woman. When the woman was testifying on the stand, the prosecutor asked if the men who robbed her were present in the courtroom today. The two defendants raised their hands.

I also talked to a public defender once who said the highlight of his day was watching the string of guys, handcuffed to each other in a line, try to negotiate walking into the courtroom for arraignment and sitting down on a bench. Said it was like a Three Stooges routine every day.

This story reminds me of a case in a savings bank which I worked at some 40 years ago...

A customer walked in and made a withdrawal, using a laundry slip with the amount of some $70. At the end of the day, during reconciliation, the illegal withdrawal was discovered and the ‘dumb’ teller was dismissed the next day. The account was legal and the customer was the owner of the account, but, the transaction should not have occurred.

I remember a Judge Judy episode in which the woman had her purse snatched. Judge Judy asked, “What was in your purse?”

The woman said, “$50, 2 credit cards, my driver’s license and … uhhh … a diamond bracelet.”

The defendant jumped up and said, “There was no diamond bracelet in that purse!”

Judge Judy said, “Okay. Your guilty.”

Well, seriously. If he was a rocket scientist he'd be out designing and building rockets instead of screwing up a bank robbery.

Reminds me of those stories you read every so often about a drug dealer being caught because they got ripped off, so they call the police to report it.

DUH! seems the appropriate response.
