These instances do not include moments of personal dissatisfaction or times of protest.
While it is legal to express yourself in whatever way you so chose, it is illegal to fly an American flag upside down unless you are in a life or death situation. People have faced legal charges for flying an American flag upside down.

My flag has been upside down since November 8. It was indeed in danger. Today it is dead. The cowards in Washington killed the Republic yesterday.
We are not a nation of laws; we are not united. Heck,we are not even a country. Make no mistake - the government declared war on us when they declared that a fraudulent election was valid.

In “I will Bear Witness”, the Jewish author in the early 30’s was agonizing how large of Nazi flag he had to fly because the Nazis were having a rally. If it was too large it would be showy, too small disrespectful. He did not support them but wanted to avoid trouble.
I will not fly anything, or put up any signs as long as I have the freedom not to. I suspect this freedom will go away at some point.
January 20, my American flag comes down and my Texas flag goes up. I will not fly an American flag until we have a legitimately elected president.
